Paul Douglas Coffey (born June 1, 1961) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played for nine teams over 21 seasons in the National Hockey League. Known for his speed and scoring prowess, Coffey ranks second all-time among NHL defencemen in goals, assists, and points, behind only Ray Bourque. He won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman three times and was voted to eight end-of-season All-Star teams (four first-team and four second-team). He holds the record for the most goals by a defenceman in one season, 48 in 1985–86, and is the only defenceman to have scored 40 goals more than once, also doing it in 1983–84. He is also one of only two defencemen to score 100 points in a season more than one time, as he did it five times; Bobby Orr did it six times. Paul Coffey (born 13 September 1969) is a British businessman, and the ex Chief Executive of npower. Early life From 1993 to 1995 he did an HNC in Business and Finance at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle (became Northumbria University in 2002). From 1995 to 1997 he did a BSc in Business and Finance at the University of Sunderland. Career He joined Northern Electric in 1989, working with them for around a decade. npower He joined npower in 2002, the same year it was taken over by RWE of Germany. He became Chief Executive of RWE npower in October 2015, where he was ultimately replaced on November 29th 2019 as part of Eon's take over of npower's parent company Innogy. Paul Coffey is an Irish lawyer who was appointed a Judge of the High Court in September 2016. He has been predominantly involved in criminal trials as a judge and formerly as a barrister. He was the chair of an examination into the Stardust fire between 2008 and 2009. Education He was educated at University College Dublin. He received a BCL degree in 1981 and an LL.M. degree in 1983. He received further education at the King's Inns and Middle Temple. Legal career He was called to the Bar in 1984 and became a senior counsel in 2002. His practice was focused on criminal law and civil law, with experience in the law of personal injuries, medical negligence, planning law, Constitutional law, chancery and judicial review.
