Patrick Walsh (bishop Of Down And Connor)
Patrick Joseph Walsh (born 9 April 1931) is an Irish prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. From 1991 until 2008 he was the 31st Bishop of Down & Connor. Early life and education Walsh was born in 1931 at Cobh, Irish Free State. When he was 11 years old, his RIC father moved the family to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he attended St Marys CBGS Belfast and won university scholarships in both science and literature. He entered St. Malachy's College as a seminarian, attending Queen's University Belfast. During Philosophy studies at Queen's he was taught by the future archbishop of Armagh, Dr Cahal Daly. He then studied theology at the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, completed a Licentiate in Sacred Theology and was ordained priest on 25 February 1956. Patrick Walsh (bishop Of Waterford And Lismore)
Patrick Walsh (died 1578) was an Irish prelate who served as the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore from 1551 to 1578. A graduate of Brasenose College, Oxford, he was appointed the Dean of Waterford on 9 March 1547., ''The Province of Munster'', p. 138. Four years later, Walsh was nominated the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore by Edward VI of England on 9 June 1551, ''Handbook of British Chronology'', pp. 407 and 444., ''A New History of Ireland'', volume IX, pp. 368 and 422. and was consecrated by royal mandate on 23 October 1551., ''The Episcopal Succession'', volume 2, p. 68. He retained the deanery of Waterford until he resigned it on 15 June 1566. Patrick Walsh (friar)
Sir Patrick Walsh (fl. 1580 – c.1610) was an Irish ambassador and friar. Patrick Walsh was a knight and wealthy merchant in the city of Waterford, becoming Mayor of Waterford in 1578. He was an older half-brother of Thomas Walsh, Archbishop of Cashel 1626–54. Another brother, Richard Walsh, was a Jesuit. (1992, n. 28, p. 191). Biography It was in his capacity as Mayor that Walsh first came to notice, acting as a "representative from the ‘’Urbs Intacta’’ to Queen Elizabeth". Marmaduke Middleton, Protestant Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, wrote of Walsh in a letter to Sir Francis Walsingham dated 29 June 1580, describing the citizens of Waterford as "stiffnecked, stubborn, papistical and incorrigible’’.
