Patricia Anderson Welsh (née Carroll; February 11, 1915 – January 26, 1995) was an American actress. She was known as the raspy voice of E.T. in the 1982 film '' E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial''. Career Welsh was a radio soap opera actress and only appeared in three films, all uncredited. The only movie in which she was seen was the 1940 World War I film ''Waterloo Bridge''. She was the voice of E.T. in the 1982 film '' E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial''. As a chain smoker, she had a raspy voice that gave E.T. his trademark speech sound. She also had been hired by George Lucas to be the voice of Boushh in the film ''Return of the Jedi''. Personal life and death Welsh died of pneumonia on January 26, 1995, in Green Valley, Arizona Green Valley is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Pima County, Arizona, United States. Pat Welsh is a retired Australian sports journalist and reporter. Welsh was currently a sport presenter on '' Seven News Brisbane.'' Career In 1975, Welsh joined the Seven Network as a sports presenter and reporter. Pat is an Australian sports journalist, commentator, and sports editor. Welsh is best known for his rugby league and golfing commentary, and has travelled extensively throughout Europe, Australia and the United States for the Seven Network. He has covered a wide array of events including the Bathurst 1000, Melbourne Cup, international rugby league, Summer Olympic Games (Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing, Rio), and Winter Olympic Games ( Nagano, Salt Lake City, Torino). Welsh is known for her books, videos, and television programs on gardening. She is also known as an early advocate of using Mediterranean gardening techniques in the coastal areas of California. Early years She was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, England, in 1929 to Emerson Lyman Fisher-Smith and Ruth Beatrice Ambler. Her parents were socialites who lost their money and residence in the Wall Street Crash of 1929.
