Pat O'Connell (surfer)
Patrick O'Connell (born 1971) is a surfer and star alongside Robert "Wingnut" Weaver in Bruce Brown's ''The Endless Summer II''. Biography Born in Chicago in 1971, O'Connell moved to Newport Beach and then Dana Point in the early 1980s where he was a member of the Dana Hills High surf team. In 1990, O'Connell represented the United States in the World Amateur Championships in Japan, winning the first event and finishing ninth overall in the Open Division also winning two PSAA events. He gained celebrity status when he took one of the lead roles in Bruce Brown's remake of his 1966 classic ''The Endless Summer''. He maintained his seed for many seasons, peaking in 1998 at 11th on the WCT and 10th in the Surfer Poll. The same year he and fellow Orange County businessmen launched The Realm, a start-up clothing venture. Robert "Wingnut" Weaver
Robert "Wingnut" Weaver (born 1965) is an American surfer. He has appeared in several of Bruce Brown's surf films, starring in three of them alongside Pat O'Connell. In 1991, Weaver graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in economics and marketing. Bruce Brown (director)
Bruce Alan Brown (December 1, 1937 – December 10, 2017) was an American documentary film director, known as an early pioneer of the surf film. He was the father of filmmaker Dana Brown. Biography Brown's films include ''Slippery When Wet'' (1958), ''Surf Crazy'' (1959), ''Barefoot Adventure'' (1960), ''Surfing Hollow Days'' (1961), ''Waterlogged'' (1962), and his best known film, ''The Endless Summer'' (1964), which received nationwide theatrical release in 1966. Considered among the most influential in the genre, ''The Endless Summer'' follows surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August around the world. Thirty years later, in 1994 Brown filmed ''The Endless Summer II'' with his son Dana. ''The Endless Summer II'' is a 1994 film directed by Bruce Brown and is a sequel to his 1966 film ''The Endless Summer''. In ''The Endless Summer II'', surfers Pat O'Connell and Robert "Wingnut" Weaver retrace the steps of Mike Hynson and Robert August. It shows the growth and evolution of the surfing scene since the first film, which presented only classic longboard surfing. O'Connell rides a shortboard, which was developed in the time between the two movies, and there are scenes of windsurfing and bodyboarding. The film illustrates how far surfing had spread, with footage of surf sessions in France, South Africa, Costa Rica, Australia, Bali, Java, and even Alaska. Dana Point
Dana Point () is a city located in southern Orange County, California, United States. The population was 33,107 at the 2020 census. It has one of the few harbors along the Orange County coast, and with ready access via State Route 1, it is a popular local destination for surfing. The city was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named after Richard Henry Dana, Jr., author of ''Two Years Before the Mast'', which included a description of the area. Dana Hills High School is a high school in Dana Point, California opened in 1973. The school's enrollment of nearly 3,000 students is drawn from the nearby communities of Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, Capistrano Beach, and San Juan Capistrano. The World Surf League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best talent in a variety of progressive formats. The World Surf League was originally known as the International Professional Surfing founded by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick in 1976. IPS created the first world circuit of pro surfing events. Career Frankenreiter was born in Downey, California, United States. In November 2007, he toured throughout Brazil on the Mostra Alma Surf Festival with bands, Animal Liberation Orchestra, G.
