Pat McLoughney (Offaly Hurler)
Pat McLoughney (1949 – 30 January 2018) was an Irish hurling selector and player. His league and championship career with the Offaly senior team lasted eleven seasons from 1971 until 1980. Born in Coolderry, County Offaly, McLoughney first played competitive hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Coolderry club. He eventually became a key member of the club's senior team, winning three county senior championship medals. McLoughney made his debut with the Offaly senior team during the 1970-71 league. Over the course of the following ten years he was a regular member of the team and won a Leinster medal in 1980. McLoughney played his last game for Offaly in November 1980. In retirement from playing McLoughney became involved in team management and coaching. As a selector with the Offaly senior team at various times between 1992 and 2011, he helped guide the team to All-Ireland titles in 1994 and 1998. Coolderry GAA
Coolderry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Coolderry in County Offaly, Ireland. The club is the most successful side in the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship with a record 31 titles. Its facilities include a clubhouse with four dressing rooms, floodlights, ball wall, two pitches, a running track and a gym. Its most recent win was 2018 beating Kilcormac Kiloughey. History The club was founded in the early 1880s. Coolderry's first victory was in 1890 when Coolderry beat Kilcormac, but Offaly was not at that time affiliated to the central body, the win was not officially recognised. The team's first Senior Final winning team was in 1899. Between 1899 and 1916 Coolderry won 10 Senior Titles, and in the 10 Championship Finals they only conceded 2 goals. 1980 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1980 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 94th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 1980 fixtures took place in September 1979. The championship began on 25 May 1980 and ended on 7 September 1980. Kilkenny were the defending champions but were defeated by Offaly in the Leinster final. Laois re-entered the Leinster Championship, having won the All-Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship the previous year. On 7 September 1980, Galway won the championship following a 2–15 to 3–9 defeat of Limerick in the All-Ireland final. Coolderry Hurlers
Coolderry () is a small roadside village in southern County Offaly, Ireland. It is located 8 kilometres north of Roscrea and 11 kilometres south of Birr. The village lies close to the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Places of note include Gloster House and Leap Castle. Amenities Coolderry contains a number of facilities including a Roman Catholic church, Coolderry National School, a community hall and a GAA facility. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1995 (known for the first time for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1995) was the 109th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Clare won the championship, beating Offaly 1-13 to 2-8 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin, it was their first All-Ireland win since 1914. Pre-championship Sponsorship In 1994 Bank of Ireland became the first ever sponsor of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Following the success of this deal it was decided that the hurling championship could also benefit from sponsorship. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1998 (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1998) was the 112th staging of Ireland's premier hurling competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Kilkenny 2–16 to 1–13 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Format 1998 was the second year that the controversial "back door" or qualifier system was used in the All-Ireland Championship. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1994 was the 108th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Limerick 3-16 to 2-13 in a sensational final at Croke Park, Dublin. Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, usually held on the first Sunday in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Bob O'Keeffe Cup. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Uíbh Fhailí) or Offaly GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Offaly.
