Parque Litoral Israel "Shorty" Castro is a park located in the city of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. It is commonly named "Parque ''del'' Litoral". Features The park was created after the city was selected to host the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Of all the construction projects built to prepare the city for the games the park was created with the intention of becoming the main legacy for the city. The park runs for 2.54 km with the Mayagüez Bay on one side and the José González Clemente Avenue on the other. The entire park covers an area of about forty two acres. The park consist of different sections. In its northern end beginning in the Yagüez River is the "Central American Plaza" and an open-air amphitheater. In its southern end the parks meets up with the Parque Infantil del Milenio, and the new José Antonio Figueroa Athletics Stadium and the Isidoro García Stadium. The 21st Central American and Caribbean Games (Spanish: ''XXI Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, Mayagüez 2010'') took place in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, from 18 July 2010 to 1 August 2010. Yagüez River
The Yagüez River ( es, Río Yagüez) is a river located in western Puerto Rico. The Yagüez originates at above sea-level in the Urayoán Mountains to the southeast of Las Marias and to the northeast of Maricao. From its inception the river runs roughly east to west for emptying into Mayagüez Bay just west of downtown Mayagüez next to the northern part of the Parque del Litoral. During its course, the river traverses the Mayagüez Reservoir located between the Bateyes and Limón barrios of Mayagüez. The Mayagüez Athletics Stadium is 12,175 capacity stadium in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, Puerto Rico opened in 2010. The stadium is owned by City of Mayaguez, and operated by Puerto Rico Sol. Estadio Isidoro García is a baseball stadium in Mayagüez, named after Isidoro "El Cholo" García, a local pitcher who threw the first ever no-hitter at a final series game in the Puerto Rico Baseball League. Shorty Castro
Israel Castro Vélez, better known as Shorty Castro (January 28, 1928 – January 22, 2018) was a Puerto Rican comedian, actor, comedy writer, stage director, radio host, singer, dancer, composer and musician, with a career spanning over 60 years. Early career Castro was born in Mayagüez's in La Quinta barrio to Juan Castro Ayala and Victoria Vélez Cuevas, the second and oldest male child of twelve siblings. He developed the skills necessary to become an entertainer: good singing voice, talent as a percussionist, and good timing for comedy. While working full-time as a messenger for the municipality of Mayagüez, Castro held odd jobs in numerous local orchestras, mostly as a singer and percussionist.
