Lewisham parks and open spaces are part of the "green lung" of London and include a diverse range of sites, from small urban parks and gardens to one of the most historic natural landscapes in Greater London at Blackheath. While overall control rests with London Borough of Lewisham, management of borough-owned parks and their facilities is contracted out to Glendale Grounds Management. Burnt Ash Pond
Burnt Ash Pond is a local nature reserve in Lee in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is a pond surrounded by railings in Melrose Close. It is not normally open to the public, but can be viewed from the road. It is thought to have been originally an old farm pond, and by 1908 it was in the garden of a large house, which has since been demolished. When Lewisham Council built the houses in Melrose Close in 1983-84 the local branch of the London Wildlife Trust campaigned to preserve the pond, and it is now managed by the council as an educational nature reserve. The pond is well vegetated both in the pond and on its margins. Folkestone Gardens (Deptford)
Folkestone Gardens is a small urban park located in Deptford, south east London. Now part of the London Borough of Lewisham, it was created during the 1970s on an area badly damaged by bombs in World War II. The park was named after a street of railwaymen's houses that once stood on part of the site. The nearest bus stop is at Surrey Canal Road opposite the park. The closest Transport for London stations are at Surrey Quays, Canada Water and New Cross. Folkestone Gardens is within of the Surrey Canal regeneration site. Deptford Park
Deptford Park is a public park in Deptford south-east London. It is owned by London Borough of Lewisham. The closest local stations are Deptford and Surrey Quays. History of the park Deptford Park was originally a market garden belonging to the estate of the Evelyn family. Located near the River Thames, it was renowned for its onions, celery and asparagus. South East London Green Chain
The South East London Green Chain, also known as the Green Chain Walk, is a linked system of open spaces between the River Thames and Crystal Palace Park in London, England. In 1977 four London boroughs and the Greater London Council created this Green Chain of 300 open spaces to protect them from building activity. The four London boroughs are Bexley, Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich. More recently it has been extended to include sections in Southwark. Many parts of the system are also part of the Capital Ring route. The system begins at three places on the River Thames: Thames Barrier, Thamesmead, and the riverside at Erith. Grove Park Railway Station
Grove Park is a railway station in southeast London, England. It is located on Baring Road (the A2212) within Travelcard Zone 4, and serves the areas of Grove Park and Downham in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is down the line from . River Quaggy
The River Quaggy (often the Quaggy River or simply Quaggy) is a river, in length, passing through the south-east London boroughs of Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham. In its lower reaches it is an urban river, in its upper reaches further from London it is more natural and known as the Kyd Brook. The river rises from two sources near Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) at Locksbottom and is a tributary of the River Ravensbourne which it flows into near Lewisham station in Lewisham. A long stretch of Kyd Brook is visible in Hawkwood, an area of open farmland and countryside upstream of Chislehurst that is owned and managed by the National Trust, but open to the public free of charge. Chinbrook Meadows
Chinbrook Meadows (sometimes Chinbrook Meadow) is a park in southeast London, England, one of Lewisham's public open spaces. It is located between Chinbrook and Grove Park in the London Borough of Lewisham adjacent to the boundary with the London Borough of Bromley. The park is within the postcode district, next to the border of the postcode district. The majority of the park is maintained short grass with paved footpaths and lined with tall trees and bisected by the River Quaggy which flows northward through the park. Waterlink Way is a cyclepath and walking route in South East London. It extends from South Norwood Country Park (near Elmers End station) to the Cutty Sark ship in Greenwich, a total of eight miles. National Cycle Route 21 (or NCR 21) is part of the United Kingdom's National Cycle Network. It runs from Greenwich in South-East London south to Crawley, then east to Groombridge and south to Eastbourne, with a short final loop northwards again to its end at Pevensey.
