Parkgate, Cheshire
Parkgate is a village in the civil parish of Neston, on the Wirral Peninsula in Cheshire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Dee, adjoining of salt marsh. Parkgate forms part of the Neston built up area as defined by the Office for National Statistics. One of the electoral wards of Cheshire West and Chester is named after Parkgate; the ward had a population of 4,972 at the 2021 census. History Parkgate was an important port from the start of the 18th century, in particular as an embarkation point for Ireland. The River Dee, which was a shipping route to the Roman city of ''Deva'' (Chester), had partly silted up by AD 383, creating a need for a port further downstream. Quays were built, first at Burton and later near the small town of Neston, but further silting required yet another re-siting slightly further downstream near the gate of Neston's hunting park. Parkgate is a small village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies at the foot of Donegore Hill, near the Six Mile Water. It is about midway between Ballyclare and Antrim town. It lies within the Borough of Antrim. It had a population of 676 people in the 2011 Census. Parkgate, Dumfries And Galloway
Parkgate is a small village in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The village centre is located just to the east of the A701 approximately north of Dumfries and a few miles east of the Forest of Ae. There is a small primary school located one mile to the east of the village. Parkgate formerly had a Post Office and an inn, the Ae Inn, both of which are now closed. The village is situated in the former parish of Kirkmichael, and Kirkmichael Church is about one mile to the west. Services continue to be held in the Church, albeit not every week. Parkgate, South Yorkshire
Parkgate is a suburb of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It has since been consumed by its neighbour, Rawmarsh and is in the ward of Rawmarsh from which it has been indistinguishable since the early 20th century. Toponymy Its name is said to originate from its location at the end point of the parkland of Wentworth Woodhouse. Although it marks the old entry gates of the parkland, the Wentworth estate stretched far past it, encompassing 90,000 acres of what was beautiful English countryside. Newdigate is a village and civil parish in the Mole Valley borough of Surrey. Lying in a relatively flat part of the Weald, Newdigate is to the east of the A24 road between Dorking and Horsham, ESE of Guildford and south of London. Neighbouring parishes are Charlwood, North Holmwood, South Holmwood, Leigh and Capel. History Etymology The name of Newdigate refers to a place at the gate or path to a wood. Park Gate
Park Gate is a village in the Fareham district in Hampshire, England. It borders Locks Heath to the south, Segensworth to the east and Sarisbury to the west. Park Gate has two churches, Duncan Road Church and St Margaret Mary R.C. It also has three takeaway shops. History Park Gate was developed around Swanwick railway station and was a distribution hub for local strawberries that were grown in the area. In 1913, at the peak of strawberry production, more than 3,000 tons of strawberries were sent from local fields every week to be distributed from the station. Strawberry distribution stopped in 1966, however, the railway station remains, and even though fruit and vegetables are still grown in the area, the present landscape is dominated by housing. The Station Master's House adjacent to the railway station has since become a restaurant.
