Paris At Midnight
''Paris at Midnight'' is a 1926 American silent drama film starring Jetta Goudal and Lionel Barrymore and was directed by E. Mason Hopper. It was distributed by Producers Distributing Corporation. It was based on the novel '' Le Père Goriot'' by Honoré de Balzac. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Eugene de Rastagnic, an impoverished artist loves Victorine Tallefer, an abandoned girl who stays at the same boarding house in Paris, but because of a lack of money turns away from her. They comfort Frederic Tallefer, an old man who also boards at the same place, and who gives all of his money to his two daughters who live in comfort. Eugene meets Delphine, one of the man's libertine daughters, and becomes infatuated with her. Vautrin, a man of mystery at the boarding house, makes the abandoned girl’s father, who hates her because her mother deserted him, take her back. Frances Marion (born Marion Benson Owens, November 18, 1888 – May 12, 1973) was an American screenwriter, director, journalist and author often cited as one of the most renowned female screenwriters of the 20th century alongside June Mathis and Anita Loos. The Cinémathèque Française (), founded in 1936, is a French non-profit film organization that holds one of the largest archives of film documents and film-related objects in the world. Based in Paris's 12th arrondissement, the archive offers daily screenings of worldwide films. History The collection emerged from the efforts of Henri Langlois and Lotte H. Eisner in the mid 1930s to collect and screen films. Langlois had acquired one of the largest collections in the world by the beginning of World War II, only to have it nearly wiped out by the German authorities in occupied France, who ordered the destruction of all films made prior to 1937.
