''Paria'' is a Norwegian silent film from 1916. The film was directed by Peter Lykke-Seest, who also wrote the script. It is believed to have been the first film produced by the company Christiania Film Co. A/S. For unknown reasons, the film was never examined by the censorship committee and was therefore never shown in public. The film is considered lost. Peter Lykke-Seest
Peter Lykke-Seest (26 September 1868 – 4 February 1948) was a Norwegian poet, novelist, playwright, non-fiction writer, script writer and film director. He was born in Christiania as a son of wholesaler Jens Peter Seest and Caroline Christiane Frederikke Thy. He was married to the actress and writer Lila Lykke-Seest. He made his literary debut in 1896 with the poetry collection ''Hvide nætter'', and published the novel ''Under Paddehatten'' in 1898. His most popular film was '' Historien om en gut'' from 1919. He published a book on the trial against Vidkun Quisling in 1945. Robert Sperati
Robert Kristian Paolo Sperati (July 27, 1872 – October 12, 1945) was a Norwegian stage actor and film actor from the silent-film era. Career Sperati was born in Bergen. He made his debut at the National Theater in Bergen as the aristocrat in Turgenev's '' Fortune's Fool'' ( no, Nådsensbrødet) before he had success as Thummelumsen in Gustav Wied's comedy of the same name and in Anthon B. Nilsen's ''Bedstemors Gut'' (Grandma's Boy). He later worked in Oslo, at the Central Theater, the Oslo New Theater, and the Open-Air Theater on Bygdøy. He also participated in the first broadcast of the NRK Radio Theater, in the role of the Bøyg in Henrik Ibsen's '' Peer Gynt'' (on September 12, 1926). Reidar Kaas
Reidar Kaas (July 27, 1881 – May 18, 1952) was a Norwegian opera singer and actor. Career Kaas was a baritone. He took singing lessons with Raimund von zur-Mühlen in London and the tenor Ernesto Colli (1866–1928) in Milan. Kaas performed at La Scala in Milan, the Carlo Felice Theater in Genoa, and opera houses in Poznań, Hamburg, London, and Oslo. Kaas also appeared in film roles. He made his debut in the silent film '' Paria'' in 1916 as Doctor Berner. In 1932 he played a Gypsy chief in the film ''Fantegutten'', which was his last film role. Henning Eriksen
Henning Eriksen (February 28, 1878 – October 1, 1922, surname sometimes Erichsen) was a Norwegian actor. Eriksen made his stage debut in 1903 at the Central Theater in Oslo, and from 1904 to 1912 he was engaged with the National Theater in Bergen. There, among other performances, he distinguished himself in the role of Einar in Henrik Ibsen's play ''Brand''. Eriksen also appeared in films in both Norway and Denmark. His film debut was in 1913 in the Danish silent film ''Højt spil'', and he appeared in a total of six films from 1913 to 1917. Eriksen was married to the actress Magda Blanc from 1906 to 1915. They were the parents of a daughter, Magda Blanc-Eriksen, and a son, the actor Henning Blanc. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience.
