Joy and the Boy is an American musical duo consisting of singer-songwriter Joy Dragland and musician/producer Leo Sidran (son of Ben Sidran). A duet is a musical composition for two performers in which the performers have equal importance to the piece, often a composition involving two singers or two pianists. Leo Sidran
Leo Sidran is an American Grammy-nominated musician, composer, performer, and producer whose credits include co-producing the Oscar-winning song "Al Otro Lado Del Rio" for the soundtrack to the movie '' The Motorcycle Diaries''. Sidran began his career in music early. Having learned to play the drums from funk-jazz percussionist Clyde Stubblefield, he toured as a teenager with Steve Miller. Early life and education Sidran grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. His father, Ben Sidran, is a jazz musician, producer and historian. His mother is a Weaver (occupation), weaver. Leo attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1999 with a degree in history and integrated liberal studies. Ben Hirsh Sidran (born August 14, 1943) is an American jazz and rock keyboardist, producer, label owner, and music writer. Early in his career he was a member of the Steve Miller Band and is the father of Grammy-nominated musician, composer and performer Leo Sidran. Life and career He was born in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Sidran was raised in Racine, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1961, where he became a member of The Ardells with Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs. When Miller and Scaggs left Wisconsin for the West Coast, Sidran stayed behind to earn a degree in English literature. After graduating in 1966, he enrolled in the University of Sussex, England, to pursue a PhD. Nardis Music is a jazz record label formed in 2003 by Ben Sidran and his son Leo. It is a subsidiary of Liquid8. It has a compilation series called Nardis Music Presents, which features songs and artists from Nardis and Sidran's GoJazz label. Nardis is marketed by Liquid8 Records and is distributed in the U.S. by Navarre. The Nardis Music logo is "Man in Balance", a sketch drawn by Miles Davis and given to Ben Sidran in 1986.
