Par Avion (band)
Par Avion is a ''SPIN''.com pick band currently consisting of singer/guitarist/composer Paul Avion, bassist/composer Zachary Ginder, keyboardist/composer Zandro Urbiztondo and drummer Andrew Rivera. History Par Avion was formed in 2004 in Los Angeles, and originally consisted of Tanya Haden (cellist, sister of Petra Haden, now wed to comedian Jack Black), Nick Lucero (a former drummer for Queens of the Stone Age), session musician Korel Tunador and Paul Avion. Par Avion's first official EP release, in 2006, was produced by Scott Benzel, although earlier demos were recorded by Ben Mumphrey, producer of Frank Black & the Catholics ''Devil's Workshop'' EP. The current line-up has been in existence since 2006, as the band has seen an evolution in a more 1990s direction, with some alt-country elements, as well. Saddle Creek Records
Saddle Creek Records is an American record label based in Omaha, Nebraska. Started as a college class project on entrepreneurship, the label was founded by Mike Mogis and Justin Oberst in 1993 (as Lumberjack Records). Mogis soon turned over his role in the company to Robb Nansel. The label is named after Saddle Creek Road, a major street that cuts through Midtown Omaha, and the beginnings of a scene whose members included Justin's brother Conor Oberst (then a solo artist, currently of Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Desaparecidos, and Monsters of Folk), Tim Kasher (then of Slowdown Virginia, currently of Cursive and The Good Life), and others. Merge Records is an independent record label based in Durham, North Carolina. It was founded in 1989 by Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan. Each issue includes opinion and commentary of the indie music scene as well as reviews of books, DVDs, and albums. The magazine posts web-exclusive interviews and reviews on its website. Items are reviewed based on a rating system in which each album, book, and DVD receives a rating from 1 to 10. The magazine has been in publication since late 2001 and is issued three times per year. The magazine was founded by co-publishers (and husband and wife) Mark Redfern and Wendy Lynch Redfern, who were married on June 2, 2007 and currently run the magazine. Giant Drag is an American indie rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2003 by singer and guitarist Annie Hardy and drummer and keyboardist Micah Calabrese. After releasing their debut EP, '' Lemona'' in 2004, the band released their debut studio album, '' Hearts and Unicorns'' (2005) through Kickball Records, a subsidiary of Interscope. Interscope dropped the band from their label after issuing their single, "This Isn't It", in 2006, and Calabrese subsequently left the project.
