Paolo Rossi
Paolo Rossi (; 23 September 1956 – 9 December 2020) was an Italian professional footballer who played as a forward. He led Italy to the 1982 FIFA World Cup title, scoring six goals to win the Golden Boot as top goalscorer, and the Golden Ball for the player of the tournament. Rossi is one of only four players, and the only European, to have won all three awards at a World Cup, along with Garrincha in 1962 and Mario Kempes in 1978. Rossi was also awarded the 1982 Ballon d'Or as the European Footballer of the Year for his performances (remaining the only player in history to win these four awards in a single year). Along with Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri, he is Italy's top scorer in World Cup history, with nine goals overall. At club level, Rossi was also a prolific goalscorer for Vicenza. Paolo Alberto Rossi (28 October 1887 - 2 November 1969) was an Italian diplomat who experienced the fall of Shanghai during the communist Shanghai Campaign and authored ''The Communist Conquest of Shanghai: A Warning to the West''. Early life Rossi was born in Rome in 1887. His father, Egisto, was a Tuscan scholar of Sanskrit and his mother was American, whose uncle was Laurenus Clark Seelye, the first president of Smith College. After high school graduation in Mount Vernon, New York, in 1912 Rossi received a law degree from the University of Rome. Career Rossi served in the Italian Army as an infantry officer in World War I. He was wounded in the Karst region in southwestern Slovenia. After a brief legal practice in Rome, in 1920 he was nominated and assigned to serve as Italian Vice Consul of New York and then Italian Consul General of Pittsburgh and New Orleans. Paolo Rossi (Bordighera, 15 September 1900 – Lucca, 24 May 1985) was an Italian lawyer and politician. Biography Paolo Rossi was the son of the famous criminal lawyer of Genoa, Francesco Rossi, and of Iride Garrone. He came from an educated and progressive Ligurian family; his cousin was Maria Vittoria Rossi, better known as Irene Brin, the fashion journalist and style icon. The young man decided to follow his father's footsteps and graduated at the University of Genoa, he enrolled to the Bar of the Appellate court of Genoa at 21 and to Court of cassation at 28. Persecuted by the fascists, in 1926 his study of via Roma in Genoa was destroyed and burned. Paolo Rossi Monti (19232012) was an Italian philosopher and professor of philosophy at the University of Florence. Career Paolo Rossi studied first in Ancona and then in Bologna, where in 1942 he enrolled in philosophy. He graduated in 1946 in Florence, with the philosopher of humanism Eugenio Garin, with whom he also obtained a specialization diploma in 1947. Between 1947 and 1949 he taught history and philosophy at the Liceo Classico "Plinio il Giovane" in Città di Castello (PG).
