Gotland Regiment

This is a list of Swedish defence districts. The Swedish defence district ( sv, Försvarsområde, Fo) was an administrative division of the Swedish Armed Forces, and was a lower regional level subdivision, usually corresponding to a Swedish county. The commander of a defence district was the Defence District Commander, who usually commanded local defence units, including infantry, engineers, air defence and light artillery, as well as any Home Guard units in the district. Military District (Sweden)
In Sweden, a military district was a military subdivision and part of Sweden's military-territorial division. The military districts were established in 1833 and were, after several reorganizations (1847, 1867 and 1889), replaced by army divisions in 1893. In 1942, the military district ( sv, Militärområde, Milo) were established who were multi-service commands of the Swedish Armed Forces. The military districts in the modern form were created in 1966, and each district was named according to the geographical district they covered. Several changes were made, such as creating or merging districts, until all military districts were disbanded in 2000. This is a list of Swedish regiments and other military units ( divisions, brigades, battalions, companies) that have existed since the 16th century. Most formations have changed names several times during their existence. Listed here are commonly used names. Regiments were the highest organized organic units in the Swedish Army from the time of Gustavus Adolphus on to the Second World War. In 1949, the Swedish Army was reorganised, with the regiments being used as training units for conscripts during peacetime. The new main fighting unit was the brigade, only organised in wartime (with a few exceptions). The division (''fördelning'') is not a static organization, but can have brigades assigned and removed when needed, similar to other countries' corps formations. North Scanian Regiment ( sv, Norra skånska regementet), designation P 6/Fo 14, was a Swedish Army armoured regiment that operated from 1963 to 1994. The unit was based in the Kristianstad Garrison in Kristianstad. The unit was formed in 1963 when North Scanian Infantry Regiment (I 6) was converted from an infantry regiment to and armoured regiment. The Norrbotten Brigade ( sv, Norrbottensbrigaden), also NMekB 19, is a Swedish Army mechanized brigade located in the province of Norrbotten, active since 2022. It was previously active from 1949 to 2000. The brigade is located at Boden Garrison, Norrbotten Regiment (I 19) in Boden. History Norrbotten Brigade was originally an infantry brigade which in 1964 became the second of a total of five brigades, which was organised as an arctic brigade. In 1994, the brigade, along with the regiment (I 19/P 5) formed the Norrland Mechanised Brigade (MekB 19). The brigade consisted of two tank battalions equipped with Leopard 2s and Combat Vehicle 90s, and two mechanised battalions equipped with CV90. Skaraborg Brigade ( sv, Skaraborgsbrigaden), designation PB 9 and MekB9, was a Swedish Army armoured brigade. It was set up in infantry regiment in 1942, as one of Sweden's first armoured brigades. The brigade's soldiers were mostly trained in the Skaraborg Regiment (P 4). History In 1994, the brigade was separated from its regiment. The brigade was decommissioned on June 30, 2000 and the regiment was re-established under its old name, Skaraborg Regiment (P 4). South Scanian Regiment
South Scanian Regiment ( sv, Södra skånska regementet), designation P 7, is a Swedish Army armoured regiment that traces its origins back to 1811. It was converted from an infantry regiment in 1963 and renamed from South Scania Infantry Regiment (). The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the region of Scania (Skåne), and it is currently garrisoned in Revingehed outside Lund, in Skåne County. History The regiment was converted from an infantry regiment to an armored regiment in 1963 and was given the name South Scanian Regiment.
