Palestine At The 2004 Summer Paralympics
Palestine participated in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. Palestine was represented by two athletes: Husam Azzam, who had won a bronze medal in the shot put in the previous Games, and Mohammed Fannouna, competing in the long jump and javelin events. In Athens, Azzam won silver in the shot put, while Fannouna won bronze in the long jump. Palestinian Paralympic Committee
The Palestinian Paralympic Committee ( ar, اللجنة البارالمبية الفلسطينية) is the National Paralympic Committee of Palestine. In 2010, the Palestinian Paralympic Committee and the global aid agency Mercy Corps, started a 2-year program, funded by the European Union (EU). Palestinian Flag
The flag of Palestine ( ar, علم فلسطين) is a tricolor of three equal horizontal stripes (black, white, and green from top to bottom) overlaid by a red triangle issuing from the hoist. This flag is derived from the Pan-Arab colors and is used to represent the State of Palestine and the Palestinian people. It was first adopted on 28 May 1964 by the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The flag day is celebrated on 30 September. Palestine competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. The Palestine Olympic Committee listed Sofia Sakorafa, a Greek-born former javelin world record holder who had recently obtained Palestinian citizenship, as part of its delegation. The International Olympic Committee, however, barred Sakorafa from competing, due to her failing to meet the qualifying standard.
