Palestine or Palestine Lake is an unincorporated community in Harrison Township, Kosciusko County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Palestine was laid out in 1837. Palestine, Lawrence County, Indiana
Palestine is an abandoned city in Shawswick Township, Lawrence County, Indiana. Palestine was the original county seat of Lawrence County from 1818 to 1825, when Bedford took the position. History Palestine was founded on May 25, 1818, by Benjamin and Ezekiel Blackwell. After maintaining a stable population for quite some time, Palestine was suggested to become the new state capital, as being situated on a high bluff over the White River. Palestine lost the election to Indianapolis later in the next year. The courthouse at Palestine was erected in January 1819. The father of Joseph A. Wright, a former governor of Indiana, cut and laid the stone for the foundation. As one of the most flourishing towns in Southern Indiana, the city had a population of 600–700 in the 1820 United States Census. New Palestine (pronounced ''PAL-es-tēn'') is a town in Sugar Creek Township, Hancock County, Indiana, along Sugar Creek. The population was 2,055 at the 2010 census. History New Palestine was laid out October 1, 1838, by Jonathan Evans. It first consisted of fifteen blocks and thirty six lots. A petition for the incorporation of New Palestine as a town was dated May 22, 1871, and presented to the board of county commissioners at the June session of 1871. At the time of the petition, New Palestine had a population of around 669 people. The vote for incorporation was held on June 24, 1871. Many years after incorporation, the town had difficulty with its name. The post office was known as Sugar Creek, the railroad and express stations as Palestine and the name of the town itself was New Palestine. Through the efforts of E.F. Poseyville is a town in Robb Township, Posey County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,045 at the 2010 census. History The town of Poseyville was originally called Palestine when the town was first surveyed and laid out by James Smith on February 28, 1840. The town was set up along the New Harmony-Princeton coach line. The new town was recorded at the Posey County Recorder's Office on November 20, 1840. Palestine was renamed Poseyville when the town got its first post office on February 10, 1843 due to another town named Palestine, Indiana who already had a post office. The name was officially approved and changed by the Indiana State Legislature on December 26, 1844, but didn't get recorded locally. The history books of Posey County state the town name was changed in 1852. This was the year that the town was first referred to as Poseyville in the county records.
