Paddy Mulligan
Patrick Martin "Paddy" Mulligan (born 17 March 1945 in Dublin) is an Irish retired footballer who played mainly as a right-back. Mulligan started his senior career playing for Bohemians in 1963. However, after only two games he signed for Shamrock Rovers in December 1963. He made his competitive debut in a 7–1 win over Bohemians on 26 January 1964 and scored his first goal for the Hoops on 23 August 1964 in a 4–0 League of Ireland Shield win over his old club. He won the FAI Cup in 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1969. During the 1963–64 season he was part of the side which won seven trophies. He represented Rovers in European competition 10 times. In the summer of 1967 he was part of the Rovers team that represented Boston in the United Soccer Association league. In 1968, they sent him on loan to the Boston Beacons of the North American Soccer League. On 22 October 1969, Mulligan signed for English club Chelsea for £17,500. Beaumont, Dublin
Beaumont () is a northside suburb of Dublin city, Ireland, bordered by Donnycarney, Santry and Artane. It lies within the postal district of Dublin 9. Etymology The name is derived from the French for "beautiful mount" as the parish is located atop an ascent from Fairview and is inspired by its clean air and views across Dublin to the Wicklow Mountains. The name was apparently given by Olivia Whitemore and Arthur Guinness in 1764, as they made their new family home in Beaumont House, a protected structure and can be visited today. History Beaumont was originally a farm in the Civil Parish of Coolock, between the townlands of Kilmore Big and Kilmore Little. It is the former home of the Guinness family from 1764-1855. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football club competition contested annually by the winners of domestic cup competitions. The cup was, chronologically, the second seasonal inter-European club competition organised by UEFA. The tournament ran for 39 seasons, with the final edition held in 1998–99, after which it was discontinued. The first tournament was held in 1960–61, but it was organised by the Mitropa Cup's Organising Committee and not recognised by the governing body of European football until 1963, when it was accepted as a UEFA competition on the initiative of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
