Bidvest Wits were the defending champions, having won the previous 2016–17 South African Premier Division (PSL) season. Darren Keet (born 5 August 1989) is a South African soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper. Keet is currently playing for Cape Town City in the PSL. Denis Masinde Onyango (born 15 May 1985) is a Ugandan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for South African Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns. Having begun his career in his native country, Onyango went on to play in the South African Premier Soccer League with Supersport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
