P. R. Kurup
Puthanpurayil Ramunni Kurup (30 September 1915 – 17 January 2001) was an Indian socialist leader and former minister of Kerala state. Born as the son of Govindan Nambiar and Kunjunjamma at Puthur near Panoor in present-day Kerala state, he was initiated into politics through Indian National Congress in 1935. He got attracted to the ideals of the socialist faction later and worked closely with various socialist parties such as Praja Socialist Party, Samyukta Socialist Party, Janata Party and Janata Dal. In 1967, he became cooperative, irrigation, and Devaswam minister in the EMS ministry. In 1996, he became minister for forests and transport in the E. K. Nayanar ministry. He resigned on 11 January 1999 after age-related ailments. He died on 17 January 2001. He was married to (late) K. P. Peringalam (State Assembly Constituency)
Peringalam State assembly constituency was one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India, before the 2008 delimitation of constituencies. It was one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Vatakara Lok Sabha constituency until the 2008 delimitation. The last election to the constituency was conducted in 2006, and the MLA was K. P. Mohanan of JD(S). After the delimitation in 2008, Kariyad, Kunnothuparamba, Mokeri, Panoor, Pattiom, Peringalam, and Thrippangottur Gram Panchayats became a part of the Kuthuparamba (State Assembly constituency), whereas Chokli and Panniyannur was added to the Thalassery (State Assembly constituency). Koothuparamba
Kuthuparamba is a town and a municipality in the Kannur district, state of Kerala, India. It is about 24 km south east of Kannur and 14 km east of Thalassery. History Kuthuparamba was part of Kottayam dynasty under the reign of Pazhassi Raja in the midievel period. Since the British captured Kuthuparamba area, the area fell under British rule was formed as Kottayam taluk. Thalassery – Coorg road which was made by the British for sending troops to Mysore also plays an important role in the history of Kuthuparamba. Kottayam dynasty had given much importance to the fine arts of Kathakali and Chakyar Koothu. It is believed that the name Kuthuparamba was derived from the words ‘Koothu’ and ‘Paramba’ (the ground where the Koothu was performed).
