P. Chitran Namboodirippad
P. Chitran Namboodirippad (6 January 1920 – 27 June 2023) was an Indian writer, educationist and leading social activist from Kerala. He was a National Award-winning educationist and also a mountain man who trekked in the Himalayas for the 29th time even at his age of 99. Namboodirippad was honoured by Justice P. Sathasivam, governor of Kerala on the occasion of his 99th birthday. Personal life Namboodirippad was born in an aristocratic Namboodiri Illam, Pakaravoor Mana, Mookkuthala, Malappuram district, on 6 January 1920 to Pakaravoor Krishnan Somayajippad and Parvathy Antharjanam. Namboodirippad died on 27 June 2023, at the age of 103. Career Namboodiripad was attracted to Communism while doing his Intermediate course from the St. Thomas College, Thrissur. Kochi Kingdom
The Kingdom of Cochin, named after its capital in the city of Kochi (Cochin), was a kingdom in the central part of present-day Kerala state. It commenced at the early part of the 12th century and continued to rule until 1949, when monarchy was abolished by the dominion of India. Historically, the capital of Cochin was in Kodungallur (Cranganore), but in 1341 the capital was moved to Cochin inorder to remedy a disastrous flood. By the early 15th century, Cochin lost its ability to fully defend itself. By the late 15th century, the Cochin kingdom shrank to its minimal extent as a result of invasions by the Zamorin of Calicut. When Portuguese armadas arrived in India, the Kingdom of Cochin had lost its vassals to the Zamorins, including Edapalli and Cranganore, the later of which had even been at the centre of the kingdom historically. Pachaiyappa's College is one of the oldest educational institutions in Chennai, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In addition, it is the first sole Indian college in Madras Presidency. History Pachaiyappa's College, Chennai is the result of an act of philanthropy of its progenitor, Pachaiyappa Mudaliar, who was a financier and merchant by the age of 22. All India Students' Federation
The All India Students' Federation (AISF) is the oldest surviving student organisation in India, founded in 1936. Pre-independence AISF was founded on 12 August 1936, with guidance and cooperation from the Indian independence movement. The foundation conference of the AISF was held at Ganga Prasad Memorial Hall in Lucknow, with 936 delegates from across India. The conference was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru, and presided over by M.A. Jinnah. The conference resolved to establish an All India Students' Federation, and Prem Narayan Bhargava was elected as the first general secretary. Illam
Illam (), also referred to as Mana, is the Malayalam word for the house of a Namboodiri Brahmin. In the traditional lineage system used for the classification and identification of homes based on the castes of Kerala, South India, an Illam served as the ''tharavad'' (ancestral house) of Namboodiri Brahmin families.
