Oyashio Class Submarine
The ''Oyashio'' class is a series of Japanese diesel-electric attack submarines operated by the JMSDF. The submarines entered service in the late 1990s. The submarines are larger than the earlier , to provide space for a flank sonar array. Boats There are a total of 11 boats in the class - the last boat was commissioned in 2008. ''Oyashio'', ''Michishio'', and ''Kuroshio'' share their names with World War II destroyers. ''Takashio'' shares a name with a ship from the third set of s, of which none were built. The first two boats, ''Oyashio'' and ''Michishio'', have since been converted to training platforms. Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is an American lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. It was often visited by the Naval fleet of the United States, before it was acquired from the Hawaiian Kingdom by the U.S. with the signing of the Reciprocity Treaty of 1875. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands are now a United States Navy deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. The U.S. government first obtained exclusive use of the inlet and the right to maintain a repair and coaling station for ships here in 1887. RIMPAC
RIMPAC, the Rim of the Pacific Exercise, is the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise. RIMPAC is held biennially during June and July of even-numbered years from Honolulu, Hawaii, with the exception of 2020 where it was held in August. It is hosted and administered by the United States Navy's Indo-Pacific Command, headquartered at Pearl Harbor, in conjunction with the Marine Corps, the Coast Guard, and Hawaii National Guard forces under the control of the Governor of Hawaii. Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam
Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam (JBPHH) is a United States military base on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It is Joint Base, an amalgamation of the United States Air Force's Hickam Air Force Base and the United States Navy's Naval Station Pearl Harbor, which were merged in 2010. Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam is one of 12 Joint Bases the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission created. JS Mochishio (SS-600)
JS ''Mochisio'' (SS-600) is the eleventh boat of the s. She was commissioned on 6 March 2008. Construction and career ''Mochisio'' was laid down at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Kobe Shipyard on 23 February 2004 and launched on 6 November 2006. She was commissioned on 6 March 2008 and deployed to Kure. The vessel departed Wu on 31 May 2010 to participate in RIMPAC 2010 and arrived at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on 21 June. She trained in the waters around Hawaii until 1 August, and returned to Kure around 27 August of the same year. On 12 October 2011, she set sail for Hawaii via Guam for US dispatch training. JS Setoshio (SS-599)
JS ''Setoshio'' (SS-599) is the tenth boat of the s. She was commissioned on 28 February 2007. Construction and career ''Setoshio'' was laid down at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Kobe Shipyard on 23 January 2003 and launched on 5 October 2005. She was commissioned on 28 February 2007 and deployed to Yokohama. On 22 August 2014, she left Yokosuka to participate in the US dispatch training, stayed in the Hawaii area from mid-September to late October to carry out various trainings, and returned to Yokosuka on 22 November. From 14 January 2021 to 1 April 2021, the submarine participated in a second US dispatch training, which was held in the waters from Japan to the Hawaiian Islands. JS ''Kuroshio'' (SS-596) is the seventh boat of the s. She was commissioned on 8 March 2004. Construction and career ''Kuroshio'' was laid down at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Kobe Shipyard on 27 March 2000 and launched on 23 October 2003. She was commissioned on 8 March 2004 and deployed to Kure. The vessel participated in RIMPAC 2006 from 26 June to 28 July 2006.
