Oxelösund
Oxelösund is a locality and the seat of Oxelösund Municipality in Södermanland County, Sweden with 11,488 inhabitants in 2018. It is located less than south from the city centre of its larger neighbour Nyköping, with the two urban areas forming a wider agglomeration of nearly 50,000 people. History The harbour at Oxelösund has been used for at least 500 years. In the 19th century, an increased extraction from the mining district of Central Sweden (e.g. ''Bergslagen''), made Oxelösund a harbour of transport. A local railroad company was established in 1873, and bought virtually the entire peninsula which at the time belonged to the estates of the Stjärnholm Castle. An iron works was constructed in 1913, and the community Oxelösund expanded, with the harbour, rail road and iron works being its cornerstones. Oxelösund Municipality
Oxelösund Municipality (''Oxelösunds kommun'') is a municipality in Södermanland County in southeast Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Oxelösund. In 1950 the ''Nikolai Rural municipality'' was dissolved. One part formed the then ''City of Oxelösund'', one of the last newly created cities of Sweden. The rest of Nikolai was incorporated into the neighbouring ''City of Nyköping''. In 1971 the city became a unitary municipality without addition of territory. Still marked by its industrial past, the politics was historically dominated by the Social Democratic Party, and the industry by the harbour and iron works. Södermanland County ( sv, Södermanlands län) is a county or '' län'' on the southeast coast of Sweden. In the local Sörmlandic dialects it is virtually universally shortened and pronounced as Sörmlands län, or simply Sörmland, which is the dominant pronunciation and spelling inside the county. Nyköping () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Nyköping Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 32,759 inhabitants as of 2017. The city is also the capital of Södermanland County. Including Arnö, the locality on the southern shore of the bay just a couple of kilometres from the city centre, Nyköping would have above 36,000 inhabitants. Commonly, Arnö is referred to as a part of the city proper. It forms a wider conurbation with the neighbouring minor municipality and town of Oxelösund south of its outskirts. Femöre Battery
Femöre battery (''Femörefortet'') is a facility previously operated by the Swedish Coastal Artillery arm of Swedish Armed Forces. Also known as "Battery OD", it is located only a short trip south-east of Oxelösund on the Swedish east coast, and is blasted into the rock on the Femöre peninsula. Södermanland ( or ), locally Sörmland, sometimes referred to under its Latin form ''Sudermannia'' or ''Sudermania'', is a historical province or ''landskap'' on the south eastern coast of Sweden. Underwater rugby (UWR) is an underwater team sport. During a match two teams try to score a negatively buoyant ball (filled with saltwater) into the opponents’ goal at the bottom of a swimming pool. It originated from within the physical fitness training regime existing in German diving clubs during the early 1960s and has little in common with rugby football except for the name. It was recognised by the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS) in 1978 and was first played as a world championship in 1980.
