Anne Owers
Dame Anne Elizabeth Owers, (''née'' Spark; born 23 June 1947) was Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons. Owers was the fifth holder of the post, appointed in August 2001, succeeding David Ramsbotham. Her appointment was renewed in June 2006 and in March 2008. She was appointed as the first National chair the Independent Monitoring Boards in October 2017. She was chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, and prior to this, she directed JUSTICE, the UK-based human rights and law reform organisation. Owers was educated at Washington Grammar School, County Durham, and studied history at Girton College, Cambridge. On graduating she went to Zambia to teach and to carry out research into African history. While taking time out to bring up her three children, Owers continued to undertake research and voluntary advice and race relations work. Gary Owers
Gary Owers (born 3 October 1968) is an English former professional footballer, and football manager. He most recently managed Torquay United. He was previously manager of Bath City and Forest Green Rovers as well as the assistant manager at Aldershot Town, Plymouth Argyle and Gateshead. Career Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Owers began his career with Sunderland, making his debut in 1986 and playing in the 1992 FA Cup Final, in which Sunderland lost to Liverpool. In December 1994 Owers moved to Bristol City for a fee of £250,000, and he spent four years there, before moving to Sam Allardyce's Notts County in the summer of 1998. In 2000 Owers signed a new two-year deal with Notts County. He was released by Notts County at the end of the 2001–02 season and was signed by Nigel Spink, the manager of Forest Green Rovers in August 2002. Ebenezer Harold Fuller "Ginger" Owers (21 October 1888 – June 1951) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He made over 90 appearances in the Football League and over 30 appearances in the Scottish League in the years prior to the First World War. Career Born in West Ham, Ebenezer "Ginger" Owers played locally for Bashford and Leytonstone. He joined Southern Football League team Leyton in 1906 and then moved to Blackpool in 1907. He moved to West Bromwich Albion in November 1907. He joined Chesterfield Town in January 1909 as they tried to retain their Football League status but failed, Owers made 15 appearances scoring 3 goals. Chesterfield Town dropped into the Midland League for 1909–10 and won the Midland League championship. Ken Owers (born 30 March 1953) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Born in 1953, Owers turned professional in 1986. He saw immediate success, reaching the last 16 at his first tournament, the 1986 International Open. There, he defeated John Hargreaves 5–3, George Scott 5–1, Jimmy White 5–2 and Dene O'Kane 5–0, before losing 1–5 to Neal Foulds. Later in the same season he reached the last 16 at the 1987 English Professional Championship, exiting 2–6 to Mike Hallett, and twice beat the veteran Fred Davis - 5–3 in the British Open, and 10–5 in the 1987 World Championship, where he eventually lost in the last 64 to Warren King. The following season, Owers beat Mick Fisher 5–0 and Rex Williams 5–3 before losing 0–5 to Peter Francisco in the last 32 at the 1988 Classic, and again progressed to the last 16 of the English Professional Championship, this time losing 4–6 to Tony Knowles. Philip Owers (born 28 April 1955) is an English former footballer who made 118 appearances in the Football League playing as a goalkeeper for Darlington (in two spells), Gillingham and Hartlepool United in the 1970s and 1980s. He also played non-league football for clubs including Shildon, Crook Town, Bishop Auckland, Brandon United, Spennymoor United and West Auckland Town. Life and career Owers was born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. He began his football career with Shildon, making his senior debut as a 15-year-old, before signing for Fourth Division club Darlington. While still an A-level student, Owers made his first appearance in the Football League, on 6 January 1973; Darlington conceded seven goals to Southport, though no more than one was attributable to the goalkeeper.
