"Owata" is the second single from The Smashing Pumpkins' aborted music project, '' Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'', and tenth song released from the project. History The song has a fairly long history prior to its official release. The song was performed, for the first time, on '' The Chris Isaak Hour'' on April 4, 2009, when Jimmy Chamberlin was still in the band. Subsequently, it was performed throughout 2009 with Billy Corgan's Sky Saxon-inspired supergroup, Spirits in the Sky, which featured future Smashing Pumpkins drummer Mike Byrne. As well, the song was performed with the Smashing Pumpkins throughout 2010, prior to its official release on '' Teargarden by Kaleidyscope''. ''Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'' is a music project by alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins that was started in late 2009 by frontman Billy Corgan following the second departure of original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. The project initially was conceived as a 44-song concept album loosely inspired by the Tarot, with each song being released individually as a free download. By August 2018, after 34 tracks had been released, Corgan announced via Instagram that the project had been abandoned. In 2009 and 2010, Corgan and new drummer Mike Byrne recorded and released two EPs, ''Volume 1: Songs for a Sailor'' and ''Volume 2: The Solstice Bare''. "Freak" (also titled as "Freak U.S.A.") is the second single from The Smashing Pumpkins's 34-track music project, ''Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'', and the first song released for the second accompanying EP '' The Solstice Bare''. Like all other songs on the EP, "Freak" was released as a free download on their official website. "The Celestials" is the first single from The Smashing Pumpkins' ninth album ''Oceania''. It was originally sent to radio airplay as a promotional single on June 21, 2012. The band performed the song on ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'' on August 23, 2012. Background and recording In an interview with MusicRadar, Corgan stated, "I have all of these vintage keyboards that we just crank out when I need something, so I don't really know what's on here. It's some super, highly obscure '70s keyboard." He added, "The arrangement is kind of like classic MTV, circa 1994. You start with the acoustic and then the band kicks in grunge."
