Ovie Entertainment is an American independent film motion picture production company based in New York City. Founded by Thoma Kikis, Christopher Kikis, Nicholas Levis, Cherise Wolas, and Alan Zelenetz in 2003 to produce independent and commercially viable films and with an obligation to the past century of World Cinema. The Ovie name and logo was created in 1999 by Thoma Kikis after he removed the ''M'' from the word ''Movie''. Thoma Kikis is an American film producer, designer and entrepreneur best known for founding KannaLife Sciences. He was also a founder of Ovie Entertainment. His work as a feature film producer began with '' Darkon'' (2006), the award-winning feature-length documentary film that follows the real-life adventures of a group of fantasy live-action role-playing (LARP) gamers which won the Best Documentary Audience Award at the 2006 South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival. Alan Zelenetz
Alan Zelenetz is an American film producer and comic-book writer best known for co-creating the series ''Alien Legion'' for the Marvel Comics imprint Epic Comics and a founder of Ovie Entertainment. Zelenetz also wrote several issues of Marvel's Moon Knight series, several issues of Thor and a run of Conan the King (issues #16–28). Biography Before becoming a film producer, he was a junior high school principal at the Yeshiva of Flatbush, an Orthodox Jewish school in Brooklyn, and Solomon Schechter High School of New York. One of the science teachers under his supervision was the father of Darren Aronofsky, director of '' Pi'' (1998) and ''Requiem for a Dream'' (2000). ''Darkon'' is a feature-length documentary film that follows the real-life adventures of the Darkon Wargaming Club in Baltimore, Maryland, a group of fantasy live-action role-playing (LARP) gamers. The film was directed by Andrew Neel and Luke Meyer. ''Darkon'' premiered and won the Best Documentary Audience Award at the 2006 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Darkon was an official selection playing at Hot Docs, Maryland Film Festival, Silverdocs, LA Film Festival, Britdoc, Melbourne International Film Festival and the Camden International Film Festival.
