Overton Railway Station, New Zealand
Overton railway station was a very small flag station on the North Island Main Trunk and in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. It was from Marton railway station, Manawatu-Wanganui, Marton, opened on 2 June 1888 and closed on 10 August 1959. History The route of the Hunterville railway station, Hunterville branch (later incorporated into the NIMT) was inspected on foot in 1884 and officially opened on Saturday 2 June 1888, when the station was served by two trains a week. By 1894 the branch had two trains a day. Overton was first noted on 1 May 1888 and a 1 August 1895 note considered the necessity for a flag station. It seems to have had only a plain line until 1897, when it had a passing loop for 6 wagons. In 1898 it had a platform and by 1904 also a shelter shed. North Island Main Trunk
The North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) is the main railway line in the North Island of New Zealand, connecting the capital city Wellington with the country's largest city, Auckland. The line is long, built to the New Zealand rail gauge of and serves the large cities of Palmerston North and Hamilton. Most of the NIMT is single track with frequent passing loops, but has double track - * between Wellington and Waikanae, except for of single-track through tunnels between North Junction ( from Wellington) and South Junction, ( from Wellington), on the Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki section, * between Hamilton and Te Kauwhata (except for the single-track Waikato River Bridge at Ngāruawāhia), and * between Meremere and Auckland Britomart. Rangitīkei (New Zealand Electorate)
Rangitīkei (before 2008 spelled Rangitikei without a macron) is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the New Zealand House of Representatives. The current MP for Rangitīkei is Ian McKelvie of the National Party. He has held this position since 2011. The electorate has existed continuously since the 1861 general election. Profile Rangitīkei is the third largest general electorate by area in the North Island. It encircles, but does not include, Palmerston North. The electorate straddles State Highway 1 through Bulls, Marton, Taihape, and Waiouru as far as Mount Ruapehu. Its western boundary, from south of Whanganui, extends northwards to include the communities of Ohakune, National Park, and Taumarunui.
