Overskate Stakes
The Overskate Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race run annually during the latter part of October at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. An Ontario Sire Stakes, it is a restricted race for horses age three and older. It is currently contested over a distance of furlongs on Woodbine's inner turf course with a purse of C$100,000. Inaugurated in 1997, it is named in honor of Overskate, a Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame horse who holds the record for most Sovereign Award with nine. Prior to 2020, the race was run on the main track at a distance of 7 furlongs. Woodbine Racetrack
Woodbine Racetrack is a race track for Thoroughbred horse racing in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group, Woodbine Racetrack manages and hosts Canada's most famous race, the King's Plate. The track was opened in 1956 with a one-mile oval dirt track, as well as a seven-eights turf course. It has been extensively remodeled since 1993, and since 1994 has had three racecourses. History The current Woodbine carries the name originally used by a racetrack which operated in southeast Toronto, at Queen Street East and Kingston Road, from 1874 through 1993. Pink Lloyd
Pink Lloyd (foaled February 23, 2012) is a retired Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse who won eight Sovereign Awards during his career, including the award for Canadian Horse of the Year in 2017. He was undefeated in eight starts that year, with his largest win coming in the Kennedy Road Stakes. In 2018, he extended his winning streak to eleven with victories in the Jacques Cartier, New Providence and Achievement Stakes before the streak was broken on July 8 in the Shepperton Stakes. Three weeks later, he returned to the winner's circle in the Vigil Stakes followed by another win in the Kenora Stakes. Despite losing his last two starts of the year, he was named the Canadian Champion Sprinter of 2018. Emile Ramsammy (born December 11, 1962 in Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago) is a Canadian thoroughbred horse racing Champion jockey. He had more than 500 victories racing in the Caribbean before emigrating to Canada in the early 1990s. Tyler Pizarro (born May 8, 1986 in Bolton, Ontario) is a Canadian champion jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing based at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. The son of former jockey Jorge Pizarro, his mother Donna is a trainer at Woodbine Racetrack. As a boy, Pizarro began galloping horses on a farm then by age sixteen was dedicated to following in his father's footsteps and was galloping horses on a track. Turning professional in late 2005, he earned his first win on September 2, 2006 and in 2007 won 124 races at Woodbine Racetrack, more than any other apprentice jockey. His 2007 performance earned him the Sovereign Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey and was a finalist for the United States' Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey.
