Overland Red
''Overland Red'' is a 1920 American silent Western film directed by Lynn Reynolds and starring Harry Carey. It is not known whether the film currently survives. Plot As described in a film magazine, Overland Red (Carey), a "knight of the road," and his young pal Collie (Goodwin) find a prospector dead in the desert. On his body they discover papers giving the location of a gold mine. The sheriff of a western town and his accomplices are seeking the mine. Overland and Collie are arrested but the papers are not found on them. The sheriff plans on charging Overland with murder, hoping that he will then disclose the location of the mine. The two knights of the road escape, however, and are found on the Alacarme ranch by Louise (Vale), whom they had seen from the observation car of a train. Lynn Reynolds
Lynn Fairfield Reynolds (May 7, 1889 – February 25, 1927) was an American director and screenwriter. Reynolds directed more than 80 films between 1915 and 1928. He also wrote for 58 films between 1914 and 1927. Reynolds was born in Harlan, Iowa and died in Los Angeles, California, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Death Returning home in 1927 after being snowbound in the Sierras for three weeks, Reynolds telephoned his wife, actress Kathleen O'Connor, to arrange a dinner party at their Hollywood home with another couple. During the dinner, Reynolds and O'Connor engaged in a heated quarrel in which each accused the other of infidelity. With his guests following in an attempt to calm him down, Reynolds left the table to retrieve a pistol from another room where he shot himself in the head. Vola Vale
Vola Vale (born Vola Smith; February 12, 1897 – October 17, 1970) was a silent film actress. Early career Vale was born in Buffalo, New York and educated in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Her high school friends in Rochester, New York, where she was raised, knew her as Vola Smith. She began her career in amateur theatricals in Rochester. Then she played in stock companies for a while. After working under Bert Lytell on stage, in 1916 Vale began working in film for Biograph, under the tutelage of the film director D.W. Griffith. After a month of playing ''atmosphere parts'', Vola was offered a genuine role. She wore a velvet gown with a train and a feathered hat. Soon she was appearing in short reel films for Biograph. Among the actors she was cast with were William S. Hart, Sessue Hayakawa, Tsuru Aoki, William Haines, Harry Carey, Tully Marshall and William Russell. Joe Harris (actor)
Joe Harris (January 11, 1870 - June 11, 1953) was an American actor, who between 1913 and 1923 appeared in at least 94 silent films, many of them cowboy westerns. He often played villains opposite early cowboy star Harry Carey. Biography Harris was born Joseph Harris on January 11, 1870, in Lewiston, Maine to Irish parents. His first major film roles were in Hollywood productions by Venus Features where he was one of the stock actors for Powers Picture Plays, which was owned by film producer Pat Powers. He ultimately became friends with cowboy silent film star Harry Carey, for whom he worked as a hired hand. He became one of the members of John Ford's stock company at Universal Pictures and ultimately appeared with Carey in about twenty silent Westerns. He and Carey remained lifelong friends, and he lived with Carey and his family for most of his life. Harold Goodwin (December 1, 1902 – July 12, 1987) was an American actor who performed in over 225 films. Biography Goodwin began his film career at age 12. Goodwin's first starring role came in '' Oliver Twist, Jr.'' (1921). He also appeared as Jeff Brown in the 1927 Buster Keaton comedy ''College''. He followed up with a role in another Keaton film ''The Cameraman'' in 1928, opposite Keaton and actress Marceline Day. Goodwin worked steadily through the silent film era and transitioned into the talkie era as a character actor, often as a "tough guy" because of his athletic stature. He was seen in the role of Detering in the 1930 Lewis Milestone-directed World War I drama ''All Quiet on the Western Front''. His subsequent film roles were mostly small and uncredited. In his later years Goodwin mainly acted in the Western film genre and often worked as a stuntman for film studios. One of his best known performances is as the president of the United States Senate in the drama film '' Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'' (1939), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was the father of Harry Carey Jr., who was also a prominent actor. Charles Le Moyne (June 27, 1880 – September 13, 1956) was an American motion picture actor of the silent era. He appeared in 73 films between 1915 and 1937. Biography He was born Carl Jonathan Lemon at Marshall, Illinois, on June 27, 1880, the son of Charles and Clara (née Martin) Lemon. Charles Lemon was a stonemason who later moved his family to Los Angeles where he worked as a railroad conductor. Le Moyne was a favorite of actor/director Harry Carey, who once said that if Le Moyne was ever not available to play the heavy in one of his films, he would rather postpone production until the actor became free.
