Overland Limited (ATSF Train)
The ''Overland Limited'' was one of the named passenger trains on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Operating as train Nos. 7 & 8 (sometimes known as the ''Overland Express'') between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California, the line was inaugurated in 1901 and ran until the '' Santa Fe Eight'' took over the route in 1915. First-class trains included a diner, while second-class trains stopped along the way at Fred Harvey Company eating houses. Overland Limited (UP Train)
The ''Overland Limited'' (also known at various times as the ''Overland Flyer'', ''San Francisco Overland Limited'', ''San Francisco Overland'' and often simply as the ''Overland'') was an American named passenger train which for much of its history was jointly operated by three railroads on the Overland Route between San Francisco and Chicago. The Southern Pacific Railroad handled the train west of Ogden, Utah, the Union Pacific Railroad between Ogden and Omaha, Nebraska/ Council Bluffs, Iowa, and east of the Missouri River to Chicago it was operated by the Chicago and North Western Railway as well as, for a few years starting in 1905, by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (the "Milwaukee Road"). The named service on this route began on the UP first as the ''Overland Flyer'' (1887–96) and then ''Overland Limited'', and the SP began its own separate named ''Overland Limited'' train in 1899. ''The Overland Limited'' is a 1925 American silent film, directed by Frank O'Neill and produced by Sam Sax with cinematography by Jack MacKenzie. The story was written by James J. Tynan. The film was released July 14, 1925 in New York. Plot The film starred Malcolm McGregor as an idealistic young railroad engineer who designs and builds a new railroad bridge, and Olive Borden as his love interest. The conflicting male lead is played by Ralph Lewis as the railway engineer who ultimately saves a trainload of passengers from the dangerous bridge. The picture concludes with a model set of a steam locomotive breaking through the steel girders and plunging into the river.
