Outstrip
Outstrip (foaled 27 January 2011) is a British Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. He was one of the leading two-year-old in Britain in 2013 when he won the Champagne Stakes (Great Britain), Champagne Stakes and was placed in both the Vintage Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes. In November he was sent to the United States where he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. Background Outstrip is a grey colt bred by the Darley Stud. He was sired by the Australian stallion Exceed And Excel, whose other European progeny have included the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Excelebration. Outstrip's dam, Asi Siempre, from whom he inherited his grey colour, was a top class American racemare whose wins included the Spinster Stakes. The colt was sent into training with Mahmood Al Zarooni at Godolphin's British base at Moulton Paddocks, in Newmarket, Suffolk, Newmarket, but the stable was taken over by Charlie Appleby when Zarooni was banned after a doping scandal. Godolphin (Arabic: جودلفين) is the Maktoum family's private Thoroughbred horseracing stable and was named in honour of the Godolphin Arabian, who came from the desert to become one of the three founding stallions of the modern Thoroughbred. Godolphin is buried at Wandlebury Park in Cambridge, where there is a stone to commemorate this horse in the passageway of the old buildings. Toormore
Toormore (19 March 2011 – 22 February 2018) was an Irish-bred British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was the champion two-year-old in Europe in 2013 when he was undefeated in all his races including the Vintage Stakes and Vincent O'Brien National Stakes. In 2014 he won the Craven Stakes and finished third in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes for his 7 middleham Park racing syndicate owners, Mr James Pak, Miss Lynn Douglas, Mr Peter Barker, Mr Tony Denham, Mr Keith Denham, Mr Danny Nundram & Mr Steve Studley. He returned in 2015 and was then sold to Darley Stud July 2015 for future stallion duties, going onto win the Lennox Stakes and the International Topkapi Trophy for Godolphin. The Champagne Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old colts and geldings. It is run at Doncaster over a distance of 7 furlongs and 6 yards (1,414 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event was established in 1823, and it was originally open to horses of either gender. For a period it was contested over a mile, and it was shortened to 6 furlongs in 1870. It was extended to 7 furlongs in 1962, and restricted to male horses in 1988. The Champagne Stakes is held during Doncaster's four-day St. Leger Festival, and it is currently run on the final day, the same day as the St Leger Stakes. Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf
The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf is an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses, run on a grass course at a distance of one mile. It is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the ''de facto'' year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. All Breeders' Cups to date have been conducted in the United States, with the exception of the 1996 event in Canada. The race was run for the first time in 2007 during the first day of the expanded Breeders' Cup at host track, Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey. The race received Grade II status in 2009. The American Graded Stakes Committee further upgraded the race to Grade I status for 2011. Exceed And Excel (foaled 5 September 2000) is a retired multiple Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. After his racing career ended he has been successful as a breeding stallion, having sired over 150 Stakes winners. Background The colt was purchased at the 2002 Inglis Easter yearling sale by his trainer Tim Martin. Martin had previously never paid more than $30,000 for a horse but purchased him for A$375,000. At the time, he had no future owner in line for the horse. After what Martin described as a "scary" two weeks, he drew Sydney lawyer Alan Osburg into a 50% interest while the remaining equity was later taken by businessman Nick Moraitis. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late July or early August. During the early part of its history it was sponsored by Lanson and known as the Lanson Champagne Vintage Stakes. It was given Group 3 status in 1986.
