The Outsider is the name of three different characters appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Publication history The Pre-''Crisis'' version of the Outsider first appeared as an unseen character in ''Detective Comics'' #334 and was created by Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino. The ''Flashpoint'' version of the Outsider first appeared in ''Flashpoint: The Outsider'' #1 and was created by James Robinson (comics), James Robinson and Javi Fernandez. The Earth-3 Outsider first appeared in ''Justice League'' (vol. 2) #6 and was created by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. Fictional character biography Pre-''Crisis'' Alfred Pennyworth was seemingly killed when he pushed Batman and Dick Grayson, Robin out of the way of a boulder. It was revealed that he had been revived by a scientist named Brandon Crawford. ''Detective Comics'' is an American comic book series published by Detective Comics, later shortened to DC Comics. The first volume, published from 1937 to 2011 (and later continued in 2016), is best known for introducing the superhero Batman in Detective Comics 27, ''Detective Comics'' #27 (Cover date, cover-dated May 1939). A second series of the same title was launched in September 2011, but in 2016, reverted to the original volume numbering. The series is the source of its publishing company's name, and—along with ''Action Comics'', the series that launched with the debut of Superman—one of the Mass medium, medium's signature series. Rising Sun (comics)
The Global Guardians is a team of DC Comics superheroes whose members hail from countries around the world. The concept originated in the ''Super Friends'' Saturday morning cartoon, which aired after the comics stories in ''Super Friends'' #7-9, in which several heroes (Black Vulcan, Samurai, Apache Chief and El Dorado) were added to the Justice League to give it more ethnic diversity. Fictional team history The characters that would form the Global Guardians first appeared in the ''Super Friends'' comic book series. They were first introduced in a story (in ''Super Friends'' #7-9) in which an alien villain called Grax (an old Superman foe) planted bombs on Earth's seven continents to destroy it. Thanks to a warning from the Wonder Twins (in their first comic book appearance) the Justice League discovered the plan in time and recruited the heroes of the countries affected to find the bombs before they exploded.
