Our Watch Awards
Our Watch, formerly Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and their Children, is an Australian organisation that exists to help prevent violence against women and their children. Founded in mid-2013 with Natasha Stott Despoja as founding chair, the organisation is based in Melbourne, Victoria. It is an independent non-profit organisation that is jointly funded by all states and territories of Australia. Since 2015, it has presented Our Watch Awards, administered by the Walkley Foundation, for excellence in reporting on gendered violence. Our Watch runs the website ''The Line'', aimed at educating young people aged 12 to 20 about respectful relationships and behavioural change. It also developed resources for schools, known as the Respectful Relationships program, which has been rolled out in schools across the state of Victoria. Violence Against Women
Violence against women (VAW), also known as gender-based violence and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), are violent acts primarily or exclusively committed against women or girls, usually by men or boys. Such violence is often considered a form of hate crime, committed against women or girls specifically because they are female, and can take many forms. VAW has a very long history, though the incidents and intensity of such violence have varied over time and even today vary between societies. Such violence is often seen as a mechanism for the subjugation of women, whether in society in general or in an interpersonal relationship. Such violence may arise from a sense of entitlement, superiority, misogyny or similar attitudes in the perpetrator or his violent nature, especially against women. Kyle Flanagan (born 15 September 1998) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a for the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs in the NRL. Tarang Chawla
Tarang Chawla is an Indian-born Australian writer, lawyer, activist, Commissioner and former Independent political candidate. Following the murder of his sister Nikita Chawla in 2015, Chawla became an activist against men's violence. In November 2016, Chawla was named as the 2017 Young Australian of the Year finalist in Victoria. In May 2017, Chawla was the recipient of the University of Melbourne Rising Star Award for Young Alumni. Benjamin Brown (born 20 November 1992) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Arman Abrahimzadeh is an Iranian-Australian anti-domestic violence campaigner based in Adelaide, South Australia, co-founder of Zahra Foundation Australia . Biography Abrahimzadeh and his family migrated to Australia from Iran in 1997. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a housewife. Along with his sisters, Atena and Anita, and their mother Zahra, he lived in an abusive home and in constant fear that their father, Ziaolleh, would harm or kill them. In 2009, they were forced to flee their family home, becoming homeless before being referred to domestic violence shelters. A structural fix refers to solving a problem or resolving a conflict by bringing about structural changes that change the underlying structures that provoked or sustain these problems.
