Our Lady Of Mount Carmel
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, or Virgin of Carmel, is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order, particularly within the Catholic Church. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th century. They built in the midst of their hermitages a chapel which they dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, whom they conceived of in chivalric terms as the "Lady of the place." Our Lady of Mount Carmel was adopted in the 19th century as the patron saint of Chile. Since the 15th century, popular devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has centered on the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, also known as the Brown Scapular. The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church (building), church located in the College town, university town of Lampeter in Ceredigion, Wales. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. It was built from 1833 to 1834 and designed by Thomas Rickman in the Gothic Revival style. It is located between Beoley Road West and Holloway Lane in the town centre. It is a Grade II listed building. History Construction After the Reformation a Catholic mission was maintained around Redditch. At first the mission was in Beoley and supported by the Sheldon family. From 1783, the mission was at Chapel Farm in Heath Green. The current church's site was bought by a local noblewoman, the Lady Catherine Smythe. On 11 February 1833, the foundation stone was laid. The local priest, Fr Bruno Tunstall contributed to the building costs. The church is only the Catholic Church designed by Thomas Rickman. On 24 April 1834, the church was opened. The Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or simply known as the Carmelite Church is a Doric Roman Catholic parish church located in Gżira, Malta. History The original chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel goes back to the early 20th century. The chapel was founded after an incident that took place on July 10, 1902, when two drunken sailors started throwing stones at a house near the bridge leading to Manoel island. One of the stones became stuck between the glass and an image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in a small shrine on the wall of the house. Locals took this as a divine sign. The image and stone were carefully removed and preserved in the parish church of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Sliema. After some years the mage was returned to Gżira and a small chapel was built to house the image.
