Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral ( es, Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Carmen), also Guasdualito Cathedral, is a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church in the city of Guasdualito, Venezuela. Location The cathedral is located between Bolívar and Sucre Streets and Miranda Avenue. Guasdualito is near the border with Colombia and Barinas (state), Barinas state, in the municipality of Paez, in the Alto Apure Metropolitan district in western Apure state, in the plains region of Venezuela. History The building began as a parish church ("Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel"). The bells were donated in 1940 while the cathedral clock was donated by the Italian Vicenzo Guarino in 1954. In February 1948 the cathedral was affected by a fire and had to be repaired. Guasdualito is a city and episcopal see in the landlocked Apure State, in southern Venezuela. Description The city is the capital of Páez Municipality, in the Distrito Especial Alto Apure. It has an important location on the border between Venezuela and the city of Arauca in Colombia for commerce, as well as being the main petroleum center in the region. Apure State
Apure State ( es, Estado Apure, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. Its territory formed part of the provinces of Mérida, Maracaibo, and Barinas, in accordance with successive territorial ordinations pronounced by the colonial authorities. In 1824 the Department of Apure was created, under jurisdiction of Barinas, which laid the foundations for the current entity. In 1856 it separated from Barinas and for the first time Apure appeared as an independent province, which in 1864 acquired the status of state. In 1881, however, a new territorial division combined Apure and Guayana to form a single state named ''Bolívar.'' In 1899 it reestablished its autonomy and finally, by means of the Constitution of 1909, gained its current borders. The territory was famous for heron plumes, which adorned European courts. Our Lady Of Mount Carmel
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, or Virgin of Carmel, is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order, particularly within the Catholic Church. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th century. They built in the midst of their hermitages a chapel which they dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, whom they conceived of in chivalric terms as the "Lady of the place."
