The Our Lady of Coromoto Church ( pap, Parokia La Birgen di Coromoto) also known as the Parish of Our Lady of Coromoto is a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church and is located in the town of Antriol on the island of Bonaire, a dependent territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of two churches in the Diocese of Willemstad (''Dioecesis Gulielmopolitana'') are dedicated to the Marian devotion of Our Lady of Coromoto in neighboring Venezuela venerated as patroness. The other being the Church of Our Lady of Coromoto Charro in Curacao. Bonaire (; , ; pap, Boneiru, , almost pronounced ) is a Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Its capital is the port of Kralendijk, on the west ( leeward) coast of the island. Antriol
Antriol (also ''Entrejol'') is a neighbourhood of Kralendijk on the island of Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles. It used to be a separate village which has merged into Kralendijk. History Antriol was founded in 1626 by Spanish and Portuguese citizens who had been deported from Aruba and Curaçao to Bonaire. It was originally named ''Al Interior'' (the interior) which was corrupted to Antriol or Entrejol. When the Roman Catholic Church began to evangelize, its efforts were at first resisted. There is a legend that the Virgin Mary appeared twice to the chief of the local tribe, once in 1651 in a river canyon when she told him to be baptised, and again, when he was still refusing baptism, on September 8, 1652, when she appeared in his hut.
