Our Hong Kong Foundation
Our Hong Kong Foundation is a Hong Kong think tank established in 2014 by former chief executive Tung Chee-hwa. It conducts research in land, housing, economic development, innovation and technology, social innovation, mainland/Hong Kong economies, art innovation, and aging society. Its stated mission is to "study public policies that affect Hong Kong’s overall interests, identify sustainable solutions to meet its future development needs and advocate to promote social consensus". In the University of Pennsylvania's ''2016 Global Go To Think Tanks Report'', Our Hong Kong Foundation ranked the highest amongst all Hong Kong-based think tanks and listed in the Think Tank to Watch in 2017 achievement category. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Connaught Road is a major thoroughfare on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It links Shing Sai Road in Kennedy Town to the west and Harcourt Road in Admiralty to the east. Tung Chee-hwa
Tung Chee-hwa (; born 7 July 1937) is a Hong Kong businessman and politician who served as the first Chief Executive of Hong Kong between 1997 and 2005, upon the transfer of sovereignty on 1 July. He is currently a vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Born as the eldest son of Chinese shipping magnate Tung Chao Yung, who founded Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Tung took over the family business after his father's death in 1981. Four years later, OOCL teetered on the edge of bankruptcy, and the business was saved by the People's Republic of China government through Henry Fok in 1986. He was appointed an unofficial member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong by the last British Governor Chris Patten in 1992 and was tipped as Beijing's favourite as the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR. Together with his brother William, he owns a controlling stake of 32% in the business, which was founded by his grandfather. The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC, zh, 中国人民政治协商会议), also known as the People's PCC (, ) or simply the PCC (), is a political advisory body in the People's Republic of China and a central part of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s United Front system.
