Our Common Cause (french: Notre Cause Commune, NCC) is a political party in Benin led by Didier Dahounto. History The NCC was established by Albert Teveodjré after he was expelled from the National Rally for Democracy for prematurely declaring his candidacy for the March 1991 presidential elections.Mathurin C Houngnikpo & Samuel Decalo (2012) ''Historical Dictionary of Benin'', Scarecrow Press, p296 It gained support from Catholics, and won six of the 64 seats in the February 1991 parliamentary elections. In the presidential elections Teveodjré finished third with 14% of the vote. Benin ( , ; french: Bénin , ff, Benen), officially the Republic of Benin (french: République du Bénin), and formerly Dahomey, is a country in West Africa. National Rally for Democracy () is a political party in Benin. RND was legally recognized on October 5, 1990. In 1997 Abimbola Adébayo Anani became the party president. Beninese Presidential Election, 1991
Presidential elections were held in Benin in March 1991, the first direct presidential elections since 1970. Elections under the military regime of Mathieu Kérékou had been indirect, with the president chosen by the National Assembly. The first round, held on 10 March, saw no candidate receive more than 37% of the vote. Prime Minister Nicéphore Soglo led the field, with Kérékou in second place. The second round on 24 March resulted in a decisive victory for Soglo, with almost two-thirds of the vote to Kérékou's 32.5 percent.
