Oulun Energia Areena
Oulun jäähalli ('Oulu Ice Hall' or 'Oulu Ice Rink'), previously known as Raksilan jäähalli and called Oulun Energia Areena since 2006 for sponsorship reasons, is an ice sport arena in the Raksila Sports Centre, located in the Raksila district of Oulu, Finland. It is operated by the City of Oulu. The arena is best known as an ice hockey venue and the home of Liiga team Oulun Kärpät. History Construction of the Oulu Ice Hall began in 1974 and the venue was opened in 1975 under the name ''Raksilan jäähalli'' ('Raksila Ice Hall'). The arena has gone through several updates and renovations, first in 1988 and again in 1994. A significant renovation was undertaken during 2003–04, which decreased the spectator capacity from the original 7,600 to 6,614. A new rinkside restaurant was opened in the hall in 2018, which further decreased the spectator capacity. Oulun Kärpät (Finnish for "Oulu Ermines", sometimes referred to as Kärpät Oulu) is a Finnish professional ice hockey team based in Oulu and playing in the top-tier Finnish Liiga. Kärpät have won the Finnish championship title eight times, and has been the most successful Finnish ice hockey team in the 2000s and 2010s. History Early years In the spring of 1946, three young men decided to found a new sports club in Oulu. At the constitutional meeting on May 15, 1946, the club was named "Oulun Kärpät 46". Oulun Luistinseura (or OLS) is a Finnish multi-sports club, based in Oulu. The club has football, bandy, bowling and floorball sections. Football OLS football team was founded in 1941 by clubs bandy players. Throughout the years the club has played mostly in lower divisions, never competing in the highest tier of Finnish football except as a part of short lived merger with OTP called FC Oulu in the early 1990s. The most successful part of OLS is the youth academy which has produced many national team level players. Oulun Lyseon Lukio (Oulu Lyseo Upper Secondary School) is a Finnish upper secondary school in the city of Oulu in northern Finland. The school has over 60 teachers and about 750 students. In addition to the Finnish national curriculum the school provides the option to study the International Baccalaureate programme in English. Oulun Palloseura or OPS is a Finnish multi-sports club based in Oulu. The club has sections in football, bandy and bowling. The club was founded in 1927. Oulun Palloseura (OPS) is a Finnish professional football club based in Oulu. Founded in 1925, the club is currently competing in the Finnish second tier – Ykkönen.
