Oulnina
Oulnina Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a sheep station in South Australia. It is situated approximately south east of Mannahill and east of Yunta. The property was established some time prior to 1861. In 1862, Henry Lorenzo Sprigg owned the station. Sprigg struck financial problems in 1867 and by 1868 both Oulnina and Wadnaminga Station were put up for sale. The two runs occupied a combined area of and were stocked with a total of 21,800 sheep. The property had a woolshed, huts, yards and 14 wells. The two stations were acquired by Philip Levi and Co. In 1870 the two stations were again sold, along with other properties. By this time Oulnina and Wadnaminga were stocked with 17,000 sheep. The area was struck by a plague of grasshoppers in 1872, causing most available feed for stock to be lost. Mannahill, South Australia
Mannahill (gazetted as Manna Hill) is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia. Mannahill is in the Northeast Pastoral district and is one of the easternmost settlements in South Australia. At the 2016 census, Mannahill had no people living within its boundaries. History Mannahill was located on the stock route that passed from the Barrier Ranges in New South Wales to the then rail head at Terowie. The village also supported early gold mining activity at Mannahill and at Wadnaminga to the south. Mannahill was surveyed in the mid-1880s as a water-supply and maintenance point on the Peterborough to Cockburn railway line which was completed in 1887. Yunta, South Australia
Yunta is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's east about north-east of the state capital of Adelaide. It is a service centre supporting both the local area and travellers passing through on the Barrier Highway. It lies south west of Broken Hill and north east of Peterborough. History Yanta was an early spelling. In 1866 the district was known as part of the Tattawappa and Yanta Run. Yunta township was established in 1887 after the discovery of gold at the nearby diggings at Teetulpa and Waukaringa, when more than 5,000 miners made their way through here. In the early 1890s the village was a busy railway town on the Adelaide to Broken Hill line. From 1934 Yunta was the base for the famed outback trucking and mail contractor Harry Ding. Philip Levi
Philip Levi (1 February 1822 – 13 May 1898) was an early settler and pastoralist of South Australia. Born at Brixton Hill, Surrey, England, Levi arrived in South Australia at the age of sixteen, aboard the '' Eden'' in 1838 with his parents Nathaniel Philip Levi and Sarah Levi (née Goldsmid), and their five other children. He was involved in pastoral and mercantile businesses in the north of South Australia and became a well known and influential businessman. His pastoral interests involved sheep and cattle in various partnerships, many of which in the period 1855–1870 involved Alfred Watts (1815–1884). His shipping interests included, with Jacob Smith, a share in the Port Adelaide tug ''Goolwa''. He was in 1863 one of the founders and a trustee of the Adelaide Club, where a portrait of him still hangs today. ''The Barrier Miner'' was a daily broadsheet newspaper published in Broken Hill in far western New South Wales from 1888 to 1974. History First published on 28 February 1888, ''The Barrier Miner'' was published continuously until 25 November 1974. Copies are available on microfilm and online via Trove Digitised Newspapers. The paper was revived briefly in 2005; an index to births deaths and marriages has been prepared which also notes additional publication dates between 16 December 2005 and 31 July 2008. The paper closed down for a second time in 2008 with the managing director, Margaret McBride stating that "...due to commercial reasons the paper would no longer service Broken Hill and the region...".
