Ouareau River
The Ouareau River is a tributary of the Assomption River crossing the administrative region of Lanaudière, in Quebec, in Canada. * MRC of Matawinie Regional County Municipality: municipalities of Saint-Donat, Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Chertsey, Rawdon; * MRC of Montcalm Regional County Municipality: municipalities of Sainte-Julienne, Saint-Liguori, Saint-Jacques; * MRC of Joliette Regional County Municipality: municipalities of Crabtree, Saint-Paul. Assomption River
The Assomption River (in French ''Rivière l'Assomption'', named after the Assumption of Mary) is the most important waterway in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. It is over long, and has a drainage basin (watershed) of . Its source is the Mont Tremblant massif. Seven significant rivers flow into the Assomption (de la Boule, Versailles, Noire, la Chaloupe, Ouareau, Saint-Esprit, and Achigan) before it flows into the Rivière des Prairies at Repentigny, Quebec. About 150,000 people live in the drainage area of this river. Joliette, Quebec
Joliette is a city in southwest Quebec, Canada. It is approximately northeast of Montreal, on the L'Assomption River and is the seat of the Regional County Municipality of Joliette. It is considered to be a part of the North Shore of Greater Montreal. Lac Ouareau
Lac is the resinous secretion of a number of species of lac insects, of which the most commonly cultivated is '' Kerria lacca''. Cultivation begins when a farmer gets a stick that contains eggs ready to hatch and ties it to the tree to be infested. Thousands of lac insects colonize the branches of the host trees and secrete the resinous pigment. The coated branches of the host trees are cut and harvested as sticklac. The harvested sticklac is crushed and sieved to remove impurities. The sieved material is then repeatedly washed to remove insect parts and other material. The resulting product is known as seedlac. The prefix ''seed'' refers to its pellet shape. Seedlac, which still contains 3–5% impurity, is processed into shellac by heat treatment or solvent extraction. Quebec Route 125
Route 125 is a Quebec highway running from Montreal (on Pie-IX Boulevard near the Olympic Stadium) to Saint-Donat, Lanaudière, Quebec in the Lanaudière. The southern section of Route 125 runs parallel to Autoroute 25 in Laval, Mascouche, and Terrebonne. Saint-Paul is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Joliette Regional County Municipality. History Saint-Paul was born in the northeast of the former Lordship of Lavaltrie. The first settlers, mainly from Saint-Pierre-du-Portage (L’Assomption) and Saint-Sulpice, cleared the territory gradually. Crabtree, Quebec
Crabtree is a municipality in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Joliette Regional County Municipality. It is located along the Ouareau River, a right tributary of the L'Assomption River. The most interesting local attraction is the ''Trou de Fée'' (lit. "Fairy Hole"), a cave on the west bank of the Ouareau River. History The area began to be populated at the end of the 18th century. In 1845, the first saw mills were built along the Ouareau River, but didn't survive for long as they were washed away by spring floods. The real impetus for the town's development came in 1905 when Edwin Crabtree bought land in what would become the centre of the municipality to build a paper mill.
