Otuam (also Tantum) is a town in Ekumfi District, Central Region, Ghana. ''Nana'' Amuah-Afenyi VI (born Peggielene Bartels in 1953), known informally as King Peggy, is the reigning chief of a clan (Ebriadze Abusua) of the town. She is the head of one of the 7 major clans that form the Otuam township. Peggy has worked as a secretary at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C. since the 1970s. Peggielene Bartels
Nana Amuah-Afenyi VI (born Peggielene Bartels in 1953), known informally as King Peggy, is the reigning chief of the town of Tantum (or Otuam), in the Mfantsiman Municipal District, Ghana. Born in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) and a naturalized citizen of the United States since 1997, she moved to the United States in the 1970s when she was in her early twenties to work as a secretary at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., where she still works. Following the death of her uncle in 2008, she was selected as his successor through a series of traditional rituals. She is a devout Christian, and she lives in Silver Spring, Maryland. Fort Tantumquery
Fort Tantumquery is a military structure designed to facilitate the slave trade. The Royal African Company built it in the 1720s, at Otuam in the Mfantsiman Municipal District, Central Region (Ghana), Central Region, Ghana, in what was known at the time as the Gold Coast (region), Gold Coast. In 1727 William Smith (surveyor), William Smith surveyed it after the RAC had appointed him to review their castles in Africa following disturbing reports that they were unprofitable. Ekumfi District
Ekumfi District is one of the twenty-two districts in Central Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of a then-larger Mfantsiman District, which was created from the former Mfantsiman District Council; until the eastern part of the district was split off on 28 June 2012 to create Ekumfi District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Mfantsiman Municipal District. ''Morning Edition'' is an American radio news program produced and distributed by NPR.
