Otto Von Marchtaler
Otto Erhard von Marchtaler was a German general who served in the Army of Württemberg and participated in the Franco-Prussian War and World War I. He was the Minister of War of the Kingdom of Württemberg from 1906 to 1918. Life Marchtaler was born on 9 June 1854 in Wiblingen. Marchtaler joined the Army of Württemberg as a cadet in 1869. When the Franco-Prussian War broke out, Marchtaler was assigned to the 4th Infantry Regiment. During the war, Marchtaler became a Second Lieutenant and was awarded the second class of the Iron Cross. He was promoted to Hauptmann in 1884 and became a company commander. Since 1886, Marchtaler served as an adjutant on the staff of the XIII (Royal Württemberg) Corps. In 1890 he was named Major and in 1893 was assigned to the Military Cabinet in Berlin. The Ministry of War of Württemberg (german: Württembergisches Kriegsministerium) was a ministry of the Kingdom of Württemberg, that existed from 1806 to 1919. Its predecessor, the ''Kriegsratskollegium'', was established on 14 March 1705. XIII (Royal Württemberg) Corps
The XIII (Royal Württemberg) Army Corps / XIII AK (german: XIII. (Königlich Württembergisches) Armee-Korps) was a corps of the Imperial German Army. It was, effectively, also the army of the Kingdom of Württemberg, which had been integrated in 1871 into the Prussian Army command structure, as had the armies of most German states. The corps was originally established as the Württemberg Corps Command (''Korpskommando'') in 1817. It became the XIII Army Corps when it was integrated into the Prussian numbering system on December 18, 1871, shortly after the Franco-Prussian War. Austro-Prussian War The corps saw action in the 1866 Austro-Prussian War, on the losing Austrian side, as the Royal Württemberg Division of the VIII German Federation Army Corps (''VIII. deutschen Bundesarmeekorps'').
