Otto The Orange
Otto the Orange is the mascot for the Syracuse Orange, the athletic teams of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, United States, USA. Otto is an anthropomorphism of the Orange (fruit), citrus fruit, wearing a large blue hat and blue pants. Otto can often be seen at Syracuse sporting events in the Carrier Dome, JMA Wireless Dome and other venues. An orange is a fruit of various citrus species in the family Rutaceae (see list of plants known as orange); it primarily refers to ''Citrus'' × ''sinensis'', which is also called sweet orange, to distinguish it from the related ''Citrus × aurantium'', referred to as bitter orange. Onondaga (tribe)
The Onondaga people ( Onondaga: , ''Hill Place people'') are one of the original five constituent nations of the Iroquois (''Haudenosaunee'') Confederacy in northeast North America. Their traditional homeland is in and around present-day Onondaga County, New York, south of Lake Ontario. They are known as ''Gana’dagwëni:io’geh'' to the other Iroquois tribes. Being centrally located, they are considered the "Keepers of the Fire" (''’'' in Tuscarora) in the figurative longhouse that shelters the Five Nations. Kenneth Alan "Buzz" Shaw (born January 31, 1939) is an American academic and university executive who served as the 10th Chancellor and President of Syracuse University, 4th President of the University of Wisconsin System, and 2nd President of the Southern Illinois University System. Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange are the athletic teams that represent Syracuse University. The school is a member of NCAA Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference. Until 2013, Syracuse was a member of the Big East Conference. The school's mascot is Otto the Orange. Until 2004, the teams were known as the Orangemen and Orangewomen.
