Otto Andersson (musicologist)
Otto Emanuel Andersson (27 April 1879 – 27 December 1969) was a Finnish musicologist. Andersson studied first at the Helsingfors musikinstitut (now the Sibelius Academy), becoming a teacher there. He studied folklore and music from 1908 onwards, and gained his Ph.D. in 1923 at the University of Helsinki. From 1926 on he held the Robert Mattsons chair in musicology and folklore at the Åbo Akademi. In 1906 he formed the Brage Society, dedicated to Finland's Swedish folk music and culture, serving later as the group's chairman and choirmaster. Andersson founded three music magazines, wrote a variety of valuable essays and collected and arranged traditional Swedish, Finnish and Estonian folk songs and dances. He also served as a contributor to the ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' dictionary, producing music-related entries. Sibelius Academy
The Sibelius Academy ( fi, Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemia, sv, Sibelius-Akademin vid Konstuniversitetet) is part of the University of the Arts Helsinki and a university-level music school which operates in Helsinki and Kuopio, Finland. It also has an adult education centre in Järvenpää and a training centre in Seinäjoki. The Academy is the only music university in Finland. Robert Mattson (businessman)
Robert Emanuel Mattson (16 May 1851 – 10 May 1935) was a Finnish shipowner and businessman. Mattson was born in Åland to a shipowner family. He went to sea at young age and studied shipmaster degree. After ten years at sea he settled in Mariehamn and started trading; soon he went into shipping business. Mattson operated solely old sailing ships, which were often lost due to their poor condition. However, the business was profitable. In the 1920s Mattson changed to steam ships but could not operate them successfully. Mattson became a major owner of Helsinki-based Kone- ja Siltarakennus engineering company. The company grew rapidly but by the 1930s it had fallen into financial problems. ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' is a Swedish encyclopedia published between 1929 and 1955, in two editions. First edition The first edition was started in 1929 by ''Baltiska förlaget AB'', but publishing was taken over by ''Svensk uppslagsbok AB'' in 1931. This edition consisted of 30 volumes and one supplement volume, and was completed in 1937. The articles in ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' were written by subject matter experts and signed. On the market, it competed with ''Nordisk familjebok'' in its third, condensed edition (1923–1937), and it aimed at being affordable for a large audience.
