Otter Lake (Illinois)
Otter Lake is a reservoir in Macoupin County, Illinois. It is located west of Girard. The reservoir is named after Otter Creek, a tributary of Macoupin Creek and the Illinois River. Otter Creek was dammed to provide flood control, water-based recreation, and a source of clean water for North Otter and South Otter Townships within Macoupin County. Recreation centers on fishing opportunities, with the lake managed for striped bass, crappie, and muskie. There is a strictly-enforced power limit on the lake, with motors banned if stronger than 115 horsepower. The lake is troubled by sedimentation, with riprap applied to many patches of shoreline to reduce (but not eliminate) erosion of silt into the lake. Otter Lake is a lake in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located north of La Ronge and is accessible from Highway 102. The lake is part of the Churchill River system. The Churchill River runs through the lake. It is approximately 10 miles long and 9 miles at its widest point. Access The hamlet of Missinipe is located on the western shore of Otter Lake while Grandmother's Bay Indian reserve is located on the north shore of the lake. The lake is on the north side of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park and one of the park's four RV parks is located on the east shore. Two of the streets in Missinipe are part of the RV park. Otter Lake is a lake in geographic Foley Township in the municipality of Seguin, Parry Sound District in Central Ontario, Canada. Otter Lake was originally named 'Nigge-Cu-Bing' (Lake of Many Otters) by the original First Nations inhabitants. There are several segments to the lake. The "Long Arm" is a long, narrow portion which goes to the east. The "Little Long Arm" protrudes to the west. The "Little Otter" part is to the north, separated from the rest of the lake by the Otter Lake Narrows. The unincorporated places and railway points of Otter Lake and Holmur are at the narrows and on the north side of the lake respectively. The water level is controlled by a dam at the outflow to the Boyne River at the Little Otter portion of the lake. There are over 400 cottages on the lake. Otter Lake is located within the Township of Rideau Lakes. The lake lies close to Highway 15 between the villages of Lombardy and Portland. Because Otter Lake lies more or less in a north-south direction, there are often some spectacular sunrises and sunsets that can be viewed from property owners docks, balconies, and decks.
