Ottawa Protocol
The Ottawa Protocol on Combating Antisemitism is an action plan which "note and reaffirm the London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism as a template document for the fight against Antisemitism". It was developed during the second annual Conference and Summit of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism (ICCA) which took place in Ottawa in November, 2010, by Parliamentarians and experts from over 50 countries around the globe. It endorsed the Working Definition of Antisemitism. Background The ICCA has brought together some 46 countries and over 250 parliamentarians from around the world to lead the fight against global Antisemitism. The ICCA's principal purpose is to share knowledge, experience and recommendations in an attempt to deal more effectively with contemporary Antisemitism (i.e. old and new antisemitism). London Declaration On Combating Antisemitism
The London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism is a declaration which asserts the need for global cooperation in the fight against Antisemitism by drawing "The Democratic world’s attention to the resurgence of Antisemitism as a potent force in politics, international affairs and society". It was signed on February 17, 2009, in Lancaster House, during the Conference and Summit of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism, by some of the world's leading parliamentarians. Inter-parliamentary Coalition For Combating Antisemitism
The Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism (ICCA) is an international coalition of Parliamentarians from around the world that work together to combat antisemitism. Among its goals is the understanding and awareness of modern antisemitism and ways to combat it on a global scale. The first annual conference of the ICCA was held in London, England in cooperation with the British Government in 2009 and produced the London Declaration on Combating Antisemitism. Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was the first world leader to sign the Declaration. It has subsequently been signed by several additional Prime Ministers across the globe and more than 600 Parliamentarians worldwide. New Antisemitism
New antisemitism is the idea that a new form of antisemitism has developed in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, tending to manifest itself as anti-Zionism and criticism of the Israeli government. The concept is included in some definitions of antisemitism, such as the Working Definition of Antisemitism and the 3D test of antisemitism. The concept generally posits that in the late 20th and early 21st centuries much of what is purported to be criticism of Israel is in fact tantamount to demonization, and that together with an alleged international resurgence of antisemitic attacks on Jews, desecration of Jewish symbols and Judaism, Holocaust denial, and an increased acceptance of antisemitic beliefs in public discourse and online hate speech, such demonization represents an evolution in the appearance of antisemitic beliefs. National Holocaust Monument
The National Holocaust Monument (French: ''Monument national de l'Holocauste'') is a Holocaust memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, across from the Canadian War Museum at the northeast corner of Wellington and Booth Streets, and about 1.5 km away from Parliament Hill. The memorial has been designed by Daniel Libeskind. The National Holocaust Monument Act (Bill C-442), which established plans to create the memorial in Canada's capital, received Royal Assent on March 25, 2011. The law was introduced as a private members bill by Tim Uppal, Minister of State and MP for Edmonton—Sherwood Park and received unanimous support. The monument features a view of the Peace Tower and photographs by Edward Burtynsky. The team was led by Lord Cultural Resources. The monument is overseen by the National Capital Commission.
