Otokar Keršovani Prize
The Otokar Keršovani Prize is a life achievement award for Journalism in Croatia, administered by the Croatian Journalists' Association. The award is decided by a jury, i. e. by two-thirds majority vote of the attending members. The award consists of an acknowledgment and monetary amount. Otokar Keršovani
Otokar Keršovani (23 February 1902 – 9 July 1941) was a Croatian and Yugoslav journalist, literary critic, publicist and communist politician. He was born in Trieste, which was part of Austria-Hungary at the time. The collapse of the Habsburg Empire caught him in the Istrian town of Pazin, which was soon occupied by Italian forces and its Croatian school closed. Because of that Keršovani emigrated to Yugoslavia and began to study forest management at the University of Zagreb. In 1924, he became a full-time journalist, working for Zagreb Press Bureau and contributing to the Zagreb daily ''Novosti''. At the same time, he also began to associate himself with Communism and he formally became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. In 1928, he was arrested and spent a year in prison. Croatian Journalists' Association
The Croatian Journalists' Association ( hr, Hrvatsko novinarsko društvo or HND) is a Croatian association based in Zagreb aimed at promoting freedom of the press and free speech in journalism. The association was founded in December 1910 and has over 3,000 members. It arranges debates on current topics and hands out annual prizes for excellence in journalism. The association is a member of the International Federation of Journalists since 1992. Neda Krmpotić
Neda Krmpotić (Senj, 16 October 1921 – Zagreb, 22 June 1974) was a Croatian and Yugoslav journalist. She was a contributor and domestic politics editor in Jugopress news agency from 1952 to 1958, before moving on to work in ''Vjesnik'' as a contributor and the head of the paper's Belgrade office. In 1963–1966, Krmpotić was the editor-in-chief of Vjesnik, and then a political columnist in ''Vjesnik'' and '' Vjesnik u srijedu''. In her column, she supported the reform faction of the ruling League of Communists of Croatia (SKH) and advocated economic and political reforms in Yugoslavia demanded by the SKH leadership during the 1967–1971 Croatian Spring. Following the purge of the SKH reformists in 1971, Krmpotić was compelled to resign. She was banned from further journalistic work and forced to retire in 1972. Mladen Delić
Mladen Delić (15 January 1919, Sinj – 22 February 2005) was a Croatian sports commentator. He studied law at the University of Belgrade, but switched to the School of physical education and sport in Belgrade where he graduated in 1938. From 1946 to 1948 he continued to work as a teacher in Zagreb. During World War II he served in the pro-Axis Croatian Home Guard. He entered into journalism after the war, writing for ''Narodni sport'' and '' Borba'', as well as working for Radio Zagreb. He had his first radio program in 1947. In 1950 he formed an editorial board for sports within Radio Zagreb. He worked as a reporter and commentator from 1965 to his retirement in 1984. Miljenko Smoje
Miljenko Smoje (14 February 1923 – 25 October 1995) was a Croatian writer and journalist. Smoje was born in Split, at the time in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, in a family of poor labourers. The neighbourhood where he grew up was known for its support for anarchism, socialism and other left-wing ideologies. This would later influence Smoje's work and help him develop a strong dislike of authorities and the establishment. Smoje finished high school in Split in 1941, but his further education was interrupted by the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia and Split being occupied by Italy. Smoje joined Communist Party of Yugoslavia and took part in local resistance movement. However, due to his rebellious nature, he was expelled from the Party, but he survived that, as well as brief incarceration by Italian authorities. Krešimir Džeba
Krešimir Džeba (Dubrovnik, 27 August 1935 – Graz, 11 March 1993) was a Croatian and Yugoslav journalist and politician. In 1954, Džeba graduated from the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb and started working in ''Vjesnik'' in 1957 as a contributor and a columnist before becoming the editor of the economic section. In 1966, Džeba became the editor-in-chief of the '' Vjesnik u srijedu''. In his editorials published in the period of the Croatian Spring, Džeba advocated economic and political reforms. After the purge of the reformist leadership of the ruling League of Communists of Croatia in late 1971, Džeba was forced to resign his post and took up work in ''Vjesnik''-run marketing agency instead. Mirjana Rakić
Mirjana Rakić (born March 7, 1948) is a Croatian journalist. Biography She spent most of her career in the editorials for foreign policy issues at TV Zagreb and later Croatian Radiotelevision. In 2005 she received the Maja Miles Prize for Journalism for her selection of topics that bring new and different sensibilities to the Croatian public space and raise the awareness about human rights and position of women at global level. Igor Mandić (20 November 1939 – 13 March 2022) was a Croatian writer, literary critic, columnist and essayist. Inoslav Bešker
Inoslav Bešker (born 30 January 1950) is a Croatian journalist. Bešker started his journalistic career in 1967. Since 1989 he has been working as a correspondent from Rome for ''Vjesnik'', ''Večernji list'', BBC, Radio 101, ''Danas'', Croatian Radiotelevision and ''Globus''. Since 2000 he has been a correspondent and columnist for '' Jutarnji list''. Bešker has a degree in journalism from the University of Zagreb. Drago Hedl
Drago Hedl (born 24 January 1950) is a Croatian investigative journalist. Drago Hedl was born in Osijek and became a professional journalist in 1980. He was an Editor-in-Chief of ''Glas Slavonije'', an Osijek-based daily, from 1986 to 1991, and a war correspondent for ''Slobodna Dalmacija'', a Split-based daily, from 1991 to 1994. Following that, he joined IWPR's London-based War Report and then spent several years leading training programs for young journalists throughout the Balkan region.
