Othman Kechrid
Othman Kechrid ( ar, عثمان كشريد) (26 June 1920 – 23 February 2021) was a Tunisian politician. Biography Kechrid attended primary school in Hajeb El Ayoun and secondary school in Sousse. In 1942, he graduated from the École normale supérieure de Tunisie and became a primary school teacher. He also joined the Neo Destour party, which sought to gain independence from France. In 1944, he became a math and science teacher at the Cours complémentaire de Kairouan. In 1949, he began studying law. On 16 November 1953, he began working at the General Secretariat and became chief of staff to the Minister of Finance, the first to hold the title since Tunisian independence. On 16 January 1961, he was appointed Deputy Director of External Finances. On 2 April 1962, Kechrid founded the , of which he was the first CEO. Kairouan
Kairouan (, ), also spelled El Qayrawān or Kairwan ( ar, ٱلْقَيْرَوَان, al-Qayrawān , aeb, script=Latn, Qeirwān ), is the capital of the Kairouan Governorate in Tunisia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city was founded by the Umayyads around 670, in the period of Caliph Mu'awiya (reigned 661–680); this is when it became an important centre for Sunni Islamic scholarship and Quranic learning, attracting Muslims from various parts of the world, next only to Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Tunisian independence was a process that occurred from 1952 to 1956 between France and a separatist movement, led by Habib Bourguiba. He became the first Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tunisia after negotiations with France successfully had brought an end to the colonial protectorate and led to independence. Les Scouts Tunisiens (in aeb, الكشافة التونسية; ''The Tunisian Scouts'') is the national Scouting organization of Tunisia. It was founded in 1934, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1957 and is also a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The coeducational ''Scouts Tunisiens'' has about 32,000 members (24,080 Scouts and 8,582 Guides). The Girl Guides are an integral but independent section of Les Scouts Tunisiens. The French brought Scouting to the country for children of French military and other citizens prior to 1933. In 1976, Abdallah Zouaghi was awarded the ''Bronze Wolf'', the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting. Habib Bourguiba
Habib Bourguiba (; ar, الحبيب بورقيبة, al-Ḥabīb Būrqībah; 3 August 19036 April 2000) was a Tunisian lawyer, nationalist leader and statesman who led the country from 1956 to 1957 as the prime minister of the Kingdom of Tunisia (1956–57) then as the first president of Tunisia (1957–87). Prior to his presidency, he led the nation to independence from France, ending the 75-year-old protectorate and earning the title of "Supreme Combatant". Born in Monastir to a poor family, he attended Sadiki College then Lycée Carnot in Tunis, before obtaining his baccalaureate in 1924. He graduated from the University of Paris and the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in 1927 and returned to Tunis to practice law. Ahmed Ben Salah ( ar, أحمد بن صالح) (13 January 1926 – 16 September 2020) was a Tunisian politician and trade union leader. His power and influence peaked between 1957 and 1969 when he was able to implement his ideas for a planned economy, holding simultaneously several key ministerial posts. French Tunisia
The French protectorate of Tunisia (french: Protectorat français de Tunisie; ar, الحماية الفرنسية في تونس '), commonly referred to as simply French Tunisia, was established in 1881, during the French colonial Empire era, and lasted until Tunisian independence in 1956. The protectorate was established by the Bardo Treaty of 12 May 1881 after a military conquest, despite Italian disapproval. It was part of French North Africa with French Algeria and the Protectorate of Morocco, and more broadly of the French Empire. Sousse or Soussa ( ar, سوسة, ; Berber:''Susa'') is a city in Tunisia, capital of the Sousse Governorate. Located south of the capital Tunis, the city has 271,428 inhabitants (2014).
