Othellos Athienou F.C.
Othellos Athienou ( el, Οθέλλος Αθηαίνου) is a association football, football club based in Athienou, Larnaca District, Larnaca, Cyprus and competes in the Cypriot Second Division. The football department is the only activity of the club at the moment, which participated for the first time in the Cypriot First Division, the top football level division in Cyprus. The club colours are green and white. History Othellos was founded in 1933. The club colours are green and white and they play in Othellos Athienou Stadium. In 1967, the club joined the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) and since then has participated regularly in the all championships of the Association. Othellos from its foundation has demonstrated "rich" athletic and social activity. From 1987, Othellos is accommodated in its privately owned residence. Athienou
Athienou ( el, Αθηένου or , ) is a village in Larnaca District, Cyprus. It is one of only four villages located within the United Nations Buffer Zone, the other three being Pyla, Troulloi and Deneia. Today, Athienou has a population of around 6,500 people. Since 1990, it has been home to Davidson College's Athienou Archaeological Project. The town's city hall includes a museum of local history and culture that was established in 2008. Kyprianos Andreou
Archbishop Kyprianos of Cyprus ( el, Αρχιεπίσκοπος Κύπρου Κυπριανός) was the head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church in the early 19th century at the time that the Greek War of Independence broke out. Kyprianos was born in (the then village of) Strovolos in 1756. He served as a monk in Machairas monastery until 1783 when he left for Wallachia for further theological studies returning to Cyprus in 1802. He became archbishop of Cyprus in 1810. He founded the Pancyprian Gymnasium (originally called the ''Hellenic School'') in 1812 which was the first secondary school on the island and which is still located opposite the archbishopric in Nicosia. In 1818, Kyprianos was initiated into the Friendly Society ( Philiki Etairia) which was preparing the ground for war and liberation from the Ottoman Empire. Antonis Katsis (born 6 September 1989, in Larnaca) is a Cypriot footballer who plays as central midfielder for Omonia Aradippou in the Cypriot Second Division.
