Ostrava Open
The Ostrava Open (currently known as the AGEL Open for sponsorship reasons) is a tennis tournament organised for female professional tennis players. It is currently a WTA 500-level tournament held in October, played on indoor hard courts, and first organised in 2020 for over 20 years to make up for the many tournaments cancelled during the 2020 season, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. From 1994 to 1998, the Czech Indoor was a men's tennis tournament that was part of the World Series of the ATP Tour. It was held at the ČEZ Aréna in Ostrava in the Czech Republic and was played on indoor carpet courts. In 1999, the Nokia Cup was a WTA Tour tournament. A carpet court is a type of tennis court. The International Tennis Federation describes the surface as a "textile or polymeric material supplied in rolls or sheets of finished product." It is one of the fastest court types, second only to grass courts. The use of carpet courts in ATP Tour competitions ended in 2009. In women's tennis, no WTA Tour tournaments have used carpet courts since the last edition of the Tournoi de Québec in 2018. ATP Challenger and ITF circuit level tournaments with carpet courts continue to exist up to the present (2022). Types There are two types of carpet court. The most common outdoor version consists of artificial turf with a sand in-fill. Iga Świątek
Iga Natalia Świątek (; born 31 May 2001) is a Polish professional tennis player. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Świątek is a three-time major singles champion, having won the French Open in 2020 and 2022 and the US Open in 2022. She is the first player representing Poland to win a major singles title. Barbora Krejčíková defeated Iga Świątek in the final, 5–7, 7–6(7–4), 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Ostrava Open.
